Immerso nel borgo storico di Petra, sulla costa settentrionale di Lesbo, Archodiko Vareltzidainas è una delle tradizionali residenze aristocratiche dell’isola, o archodika, amorevolmente conservate e aperte al pubblico. Queste imponenti dimore in pietra furono un tempo le abitazioni di ricche famiglie di mercanti e proprietari terrieri che plasmarono la vita sociale e commerciale di Lesbo durante l'epoca ottomana e fino agli inizi del Novecento. La magione Vareltzidainas porta questa eredità nelle sue stesse mura, offrendo agli ospiti una rara occasione per immergersi nella raffinata architettura domestica di un'epoca passata, con le sue stanze dai soffitti alti, gli elaborati lavori in legno e la generosità degli spazi che contraddistinguevano le case dei ceti abbienti di Lesbo. Soggiornare o cenare in un archodiko a Petra significa immergersi in uno stile di vita che è in gran parte scomparso dal resto del Mediterraneo. Cosa aspettarsi
Non appena si varca la soglia, le spesse mura in pietra e le stanze dai soffitti alti rivelano uno spazio plasmato in un altro secolo — mobili d'antiquariato, intagli in legno e proporzioni da dimora signorile creano una quiete che le strutture moderne raramente raggiungono. Il cortile ombreggiato dalla bouganville, con vista sulla roccia vulcanica di Petra, e i vicoli acciottolati del paese a pochi passi completano un'atmosfera davvero singolare.
Periodo migliore
La tarda primavera e l'inizio dell'autunno sono i periodi migliori — maggio, giugno, settembre e ottobre offrono condizioni piacevoli, luce straordinaria e meno affollamento rispetto al picco estivo.
Come arrivare
Petra si trova a circa 45 minuti di auto da Mitilene, seguendo la strada costiera settentrionale attraverso Kalloni. Il palazzo si trova nel cuore storico del paese, a pochi passi dalla celebre roccia.

It wasn't open even thought it specifically stated it was open until 15:30. I was really looking forward to seeing inside and was disappointed to find it closed 🔒

Very nice view of the exterior. The guard must have been on an ouzo break so unable to enter.

Very beautiful mansion with special architecture, it highlights the materials of the era that with elaborate designs on wood and stone by tasteful craftsmen and artisans give this excellent result of another era!!! Congratulations to those who granted the mansion, as well as to the Ministry of Culture, for the restoration and visitation of a newer monument like this Mansion of Vareltzidaina!!! The employee is polite! Thank you!

This beautifully preserved two-story building, bearing traces of Balkan and Ottoman architecture, is constructed with six stone bases and a wooden upper section. Inside, there is information about its historical development. The upper floor is also made of wood and features paintings on the walls depicting various periods. It is open until 3:30 PM, and the entrance fee is 3 Euros.

A building from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, it represents the secular architecture of Lesvos during the late Ottoman period, combining local and Oriental features with Neoclassicism, Byzantine architecture, and Baroque. The two-story house features a stone ground floor, which served as a defensive and storage space. The upper floor is constructed of wood. It is divided into six rooms, each decorated with extraordinary frescoes typical of the period.
