Fermarsi qui offre uno scorcio autentico su come la gente del posto vive e mangia davvero, lontano dalle offerte turistiche che si concentrano intorno al porto. Che siate attratti dalla vetrina o semplicemente seguiate l'esempio dei Mitileni che fanno la fila qui senza esitazione, Gounaris premia il viaggiatore curioso. La tradizione egea dell'artigianalità e della cura per il cibo e le bevande è profondamente radicata a Lesbo, e questo locale riflette quell'etica. È il tipo di posto in cui il prodotto parla da solo e dove il ritmo tranquillo e ospitale del commercio delle isole greche fa sì che anche una breve sosta sembri un piccolo evento. Per i visitatori che esplorano Mitilene a piedi — che è decisamente il modo giusto per scoprirla — Gounaris rappresenta una pausa naturale e soddisfacente.

Appena entrato, si ritrova tra i locali che sbrigano le loro faccende quotidiane — tranquilli, a loro agio con il personale, chiaramente habitué. Il negozio ha quella sicurezza serena di chi non ha bisogno di farsi pubblicità: la vetrina parla da sola. Si tratta di una sosta breve ma rivelatrice, il tipo che racconta una città meglio di qualsiasi guida.
Periodo migliore
Gounaris è aperto tutto l'anno; la primavera e l'autunno offrono un'atmosfera più autenticamente locale, prima dell'afflusso estivo.
Come arrivare
Si trova nel cuore di Mitilene, a distanza di passeggiata dal lungomare e dal mercato centrale — nessuna auto necessaria se sta già esplorando la città a piedi.

Gounaris: Big portions but flavor a bit underwhelming At Gounaris, the portions are really big. One scoop is 2 euros and even a single scoop feels like almost two. The cone was fresh and tasty, not stale at all, which is a nice detail. The staff were friendly, smiling, and helpful, making you feel welcome. However, the ice cream flavor did not fully meet expectations. Despite the generous size, the taste felt a bit flat. Especially with the pistachio flavor, we couldn’t really get that strong, distinct pistachio taste. It’s worth trying if you want big portions, but those looking for strong flavors should keep their expectations lower.

We just had the most wonderful taste experience at Gounaris! Perfectly placed by the harbour with kind staff and delicious cakes! I can definately recommend the Pavlova. The staff even offered us an extra chocolate treat. We will definitely come back!

I had the pleasure of enjoying some truly delectable ice cream during my visit to Lesvos Island. The Black Forest, mango, and blood orange flavors were particularly delightful. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and the location of the establishment was quite convenient.

When you ask for tea they serve an intense mint flavoured one without letting you know. In defence they say “you said just tea, you did not ask for a black tea and this is a gelato place”. I also can’t make a recommendation on neither their artificially flavoured gelatos nor their panna cottas that were just as bad. Bonus is their rude attitude
