Kavos Cafe si trova in uno degli angoli più suggestivi di Lesbo, arroccato ai margini di Skala Sykamineas, il minuscolo porto di pescatori che ispirò a Stratis Myrivilis il suo amato romanzo La Madonna della Sirena. Il villaggio è tra i più incontaminati dell'isola, con i suoi caicchi di legno colorato ancora ormeggiati sotto gli alberi di gelso, e Kavos – il cui nome significa capo o promontorio in greco – occupa un posto privilegiato dove il Mar Egeo si estende verso la costa turca a nord. È il tipo di caffè che sembra radicato nel suo luogo, un naturale punto di sosta dopo la strada tortuosa che scende dal villaggio collinare di Sykaminia.
I visitatori vengono qui per il caffè greco, i frappè freddi, le spremute fresche e semplici rinfreschi serviti a un ritmo che rispecchia quello tranquillo del porto. L'ambiente fa gran parte del lavoro: reti da pesca, aria salmastra, il dolce sciabordio delle barche contro la banchina, e vedute che mutano con la luce durante il giorno. Che vi fermiate al fresco del mattino prima di esplorare la costa, o indugiate fino al tardo pomeriggio mentre il sole cala sull'acqua, Kavos offre quel tipo di piacere semplice che definisce il meglio della cultura greca del caffè.
Per i viaggiatori che percorrono la strada costiera settentrionale di Lesbo, Skala Sykamineas è imperdibile, e Kavos Cafe fornisce la scusa ideale per rallentare e assaporarla come si deve. È il genere di luogo dove un singolo caffè può prolungarsi per un'ora senza alcuna sensazione di perdita di tempo – circondati dalla genuina vita di villaggio, da scenari autentici e dal quieto dramma di uno dei litorali più carichi di storia dell'Egeo.

Cosa aspettarsi
Ci si siede a pochi metri dall'acqua, con i caicchi di legno che ondeggiano proprio di fronte e, nelle giornate limpide, la costa turca visibile all'orizzonte oltre lo stretto. Il ritmo è dettato dal porto stesso — senza fretta, silenzioso, spezzato soltanto dai gabbiani e dallo scricchiolio delle cime d'ormeggio. Ordini un caffè greco o un frappé e lasci che la mattinata o il pomeriggio si distendano attorno a Lei.
Periodo migliore
Dalla fine di aprile a inizio settembre è il periodo ideale; l'esposizione a nord porta una brezza piacevole anche nelle giornate più calde di luglio e agosto.
Come arrivare
Da Mitilene si prende la strada verso nord in direzione di Kalloni, poi si prosegue lungo la costa settentrionale — il tragitto richiede circa un'ora e mezza. Si seguono le indicazioni per scendere dal paese collinare di Sykaminia; l'ultimo tratto è ripido e stretto, ma conduce direttamente al porticciolo.

The place is great to relax and drink your coffee, especially in the back yard. The parrot that the owners have is a great attraction to the kids. You can eat snacks, ice cream and also a beer in the evening. The owners are very friendly. Update - as of summer 2022 the parrot is deceased. It was a landmark for tens of years... Hope that it will be replaced soon.

Very nice place with a good atmosphere next to the sea. Food and drink options are very good as well. Service is always friendly, fast and open for a joke. Plenty of free street parking on the left hand side of the harbour. I can only recommend this place. Make sure to check out the inside space as well as the space behind the store itself.

A very nice little cafe situated in one of the corners of the very picturesque port called Skala Sykaminea. We went there three times during our stay in Sykaminea. You can sit at the front of the cafe with a really nice view of the little port with the boats the taverns and the church. We opted to sit in the back garden where you can find nice shade in the hot summer days. The place is offering very nice coffees, cold espresso and cappuccino. We also tried the tosts, the savoury crêpes and the omelettes. There isn't a great variety bit all the ingredients are very fresh and the taste is excellent! Finally we tried the ice cream which was fabulous. There are board games for the whole family. Lots of kids playing around. A very family friendly place.

A real traditional Greek fishing village with a small port and a few restaurants. A must to visit when you are in Lesvos. Real friendly people here and make sure to have a look in the back. They have a beautiful parrot sitting there. While entering this village, be aware of the town fool. It’s an older man dressed up in a wedding dress !!

A great location with an amazing view. The cafe really does provide a one of a kind scene and the coffee and food is obviously high standard greek food. This is a very good spot for familys or large groups looking for a secret and quite spot to relax at. Fun fact is that if you look just over the sea you can see the neughbouring country turkey.
