Nascosto vicino al tranquillo villaggio dell’entroterra di Tavari, Pantelēs è uno di quegli stabilimenti locali meravigliosamente autentici che premia il viaggiatore disposto ad avventurarsi oltre le località balneari. Questa parte del centro di Lesbo è un mondo a parte rispetto alle trafficate città portuali — un paesaggio di uliveti, campi delimitati da muretti a secco e una tranquilla vita di villaggio che è cambiata poco nel corso delle generazioni. Un’attività che porta un nome personale come Pantelēs la dice subito lunga sul suo carattere: questo è un luogo fondato sull’orgoglio individuale e sui legami comunitari, il tipo di impresa che probabilmente serve da anni sia la gente del posto che i visitatori curiosi. Il villaggio di Tavari sorge tra le dolci colline dell’interno dell’isola, e fermarsi al Pantelēs offre una finestra autentica sulla vita quotidiana a Lesbo, lontano dai percorsi turistici. Che Lei sia di passaggio in auto attraverso l’isola o stia esplorando la rete di strade tranquille che collegano i suoi piccoli insediamenti, una visita qui è un’occasione per rallentare, scambiare qualche parola con chi sta dietro al bancone e sperimentare il calore che definisce l’ospitalità greca nella sua forma più spontanea. La campagna circostante, ricca del luccichio argentato degli antichi ulivi e del profumo delle erbe selvatiche, rende il viaggio stesso parte del piacere. Per i viaggiatori che cercano la vera essenza di Lesbo — non la versione da cartolina, ma l’isola vissuta e pulsante che la gente del posto chiama casa — luoghi come Pantelēs sono esattamente ciò che cercare. Non hanno alcuna fanfara e non ne hanno bisogno. Venga con la mente aperta, magari con un po’ di greco, e con la voglia di soffermarsi, ed è probabile che se ne vada con un senso più pieno di ciò che rende quest’isola così straordinariamente speciale.

Cosa aspettarsi
Pantelēs è il tipo di locale che si trova solo allontanandosi dalle strade costiere: senza pretese, senza fretta, perfettamente in sintonia con gli uliveti che circondano Tavari. Con ogni probabilità incontrerete qualche residente del villaggio, e un caffè o una bibita fresca diventa facilmente occasione di conversazione.
Periodo migliore
La tarda primavera (maggio–giugno) e l'inizio dell'autunno (settembre–ottobre) sono i periodi più piacevoli; in luglio e agosto l'entroterra può risultare molto caldo.
Come arrivare
Da Mitilene si percorre la strada verso ovest in direzione di Kalloni, poi si seguono le strade secondarie che salgono verso i villaggi collinari dell'interno — Tavari si raggiunge in circa un'ora di guida, a seconda del percorso scelto.

Stopped here for lunch on a cloudy day out driving. Service was great, lovely traditional food, would definitely go back. In fact we realised we had been here before in 2016 on the exact same date !

Fresh Fish, Fresh Salad, Grilled Eggplants, Cod, Octopus, I recommend all. Staff very attentive during our stay in the town. You will enjoy the sound of the waves and the best food!

Very relaxing and calm taverna with some free beach beds. We had a delicious lunch and there is a cute very friendly little dog of Mr Panteles. Seafood is very fresh and prices very good. Beetroot salad with leaves and green beans are great.

Pandelis is a very pleasant surprise . Delicious food with very good prices and an amazing host. Don’t miss the grilled sardines and the courgette flowers which are the local specialty of the island. The portions are very generous. A must if you are around the area . And if you chose Chrousos or Eressos you should opt for PANDELIS as your best choice of food .

The imam was the best we've ever had. It was fluffy and soft with the perfect balance of richness and flavour. We had pork souvlaki, veal in tomato sauce, Greek salad and horta. Everything was fantastic. Great location and service!
