Το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Μυτιλήνης αποτελεί μία από τις σημαντικότερες συλλογές αρχαίας ιστορίας στο Βόρειο Αιγαίο, φιλοξενώντας ευρήματα που καλύπτουν χιλιάδες χρόνια ανθρώπινης παρουσίας στη Λέσβο. Η συλλογή του μουσείου προέρχεται από ανασκαφές σε όλο το νησί και παρουσιάζει αντικείμενα από την προϊστορική, αρχαϊκή, κλασική, ελληνιστική και ρωμαϊκή περίοδο. Ξεχωρίζουν τα εντυπωσιακά ψηφιδωτά δάπεδα που διασώθηκαν από αρχαίες ρωμαϊκές επαύλεις, καθώς και κλασικά γλυπτά, κεραμικά, νομίσματα και ταφικά αντικείμενα που ζωντανεύουν με γλαφυρό τρόπο την καθημερινή ζωή στην αρχαιότητα. Τα ψηφιδωτά είναι ιδιαίτερα αξιοσημείωτα — ζωηρές, καλοδιατηρημένες παραστάσεις που κοσμούσαν κάποτε τα δάπεδα εύπορων κατοικιών και μαρτυρούν την ακμή του νησιού κατά τη ρωμαϊκή εποχή.
Μπαίνοντας μέσα, ο επισκέπτης θα βρει τις εκθέσεις οργανωμένες με σκέψη, σε μια συνεκτική αφήγηση μέσα από τα στρωματοποιημένα παρελθόντα της Λέσβου. Οι συλλογές αναδεικνύουν τη σημασία του νησιού ως σταυροδρόμι του αιγαιακού πολιτισμού — τόπου που γέννησε την ποιήτρια Σαπφώ και τον φιλόσοφο Θεόφραστο, και υπήρξε σημαντικό λιμάνι και πολιτιστικό κέντρο καθ' όλη την αρχαιότητα. Επιγραφές, αναθηματικά αντικείμενα και καθημερινά οικιακά σκεύη συμπληρώνουν τα πιο επιβλητικά εκθέματα, εντάσσοντας την ιστορία στη ζωή των απλών κατοίκων και όχι μόνο των ισχυρών.
Για όσους ταξιδεύουν στη Μυτιλήνη, την πρωτεύουσα του νησιού, η επίσκεψη στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο είναι απαραίτητη συνέχεια στην περιήγηση στο βυζαντινό κάστρο και τους οθωμανικούς δρόμους της πόλης. Τα ρωμαϊκά ψηφιδωτά δάπεδα είναι το απόλυτο αξιοθέατο — μεγάλες, ζωηρόχρωμες συνθέσεις από αρχαίες επαύλεις που σας καθηλώνουν. Η υπόλοιπη συλλογή αναπτύσσεται χρονολογικά, από προϊστορικά ευρήματα ως νομίσματα, γλυπτά και καθημερινά κεραμικά, δίνοντας ανθρώπινη κλίμακα στη μακραίωνη ιστορία του νησιού.
Καλύτερη εποχή
Λειτουργεί όλο τον χρόνο· Απρίλιο με Ιούνιο και τον Σεπτέμβριο η επίσκεψη είναι πιο ήρεμη, με ευχάριστες θερμοκρασίες για βόλτα στη Μυτιλήνη.
Πώς θα φτάσετε
Το μουσείο βρίσκεται στο κέντρο της Μυτιλήνης, σε κοντινή απόσταση πεζή από το λιμάνι και το Βυζαντινό Κάστρο· από τον λιμενικό σταθμό χρειάζεστε περίπου δέκα με δεκαπέντε λεπτά με τα πόδια.

Fantastic mosaiacs and some interesting objects. Random non sequential jumbling of item numbers and text contributed to it being a bit inaccessible. As with so many museums, would benefit from a rewrite of the narratives for brevity and clarity together with placing the objects in the broader historical and geopolitical forces that shaped this beautiful island over the millenia.

really beautiful collection!! so fascinating to see the recreations of the buildings and architecture they had collected mosaics from, and you can even walk on them (on protected glass) to full explore the size and magnitude of the art!! really cool place to visit

Excellent sightseeing visitor experience for all tourists. Helpful staff provide guidance and answer queries. There are plenty of different exhibition areas depending on tourist's interests. Photography is allowed without flash option, but videos are allowed. Entrance fee 10€ for all except for certain categories.

The museum will be interesting for people who like history and archeology. The museum has many artifacts that were excavated on the island, it is interesting to walk and read, comparing it with history. The entrance cost 4 euros, the employees are polite, but it was a little uncomfortable when they followed you and talked to each other. It would be much more valuable if the museum had tours or stories about the history. If you have no alternative to occupy yourself in the city, you can visit this museum.

It is a beautiful museum with very interesting excibits. The museum closes at 15:30. I got in at 14:20. At about 15:00 ... the personnel .... hmm .... let's just say that the way they moved around and talked to each other made me feel uncomfortable and not welcome. 5 stars for the excibits and the presentation.

The location of the museum is so close to Ferries. We walked all the way there but be careful on sunny days. It may be hot, wear your hat. The museum is so close to a park and a beach. If you have swimsuits with you, you may swim. When you get in there, there is a small reception on the left. If you don’t want to carry your backpack with you, there are locked wardrobes. It looks like museum is a calm place and few people visits there but valuable. There is always a lady directs you during the trip. Rooms are little bit complicated but someone helps, no worries. I had almost 100 photos, the system doesn’t let me upload all. I may try it later. Anyway, the museum is cool, I enjoyed it. I hope you can also like it. Enjoy your trip!

If you like mosaics you should check it out. We were really impressed with how they transferred and restored these detailed pieces. They also had a display of mosaics made by local children, which was super cute.
