Mandamados è da tempo uno dei grandi villaggi della ceramica di Lesbo, una tradizione che risale a secoli fa e che affonda le radici negli abbondanti depositi di argilla dell'isola e nelle esigenze pratiche di una comunità agricola e marittima. La Ceramica Dimitris Stamatis porta avanti quest'arte viva, offrendo ai visitatori un incontro autentico con la tradizione ceramica fatta a mano che un tempo riforniva le case di tutto l'Egeo settentrionale di tutto, dai vasi di terracotta per la conservazione e la cottura ai pezzi decorativi. Entrando nel laboratorio, si accede a uno spazio dove l'odore della terra cotta e la vista dei lavori in corso al tornio raccontano una storia che nessun museo può replicare pienamente.
Una visita qui è tanto un'occasione per assistere al processo quanto per portare a casa qualcosa. I pezzi esposti spaziano tipicamente da oggetti funzionali di uso quotidiano a opere decorative ispirate ai motivi locali e ai colori del paesaggio egeo: blu, ocra e terrecotte che rispecchiano il villaggio e il mare oltre i suoi confini. Che siate alla ricerca di un piatto lavorato a mano, di una semplice brocca o di un regalo unico con una vera provenienza, il lavoro qui offerto è radicato nel luogo in un modo che i souvenir prodotti in serie semplicemente non sono.
Mandamados stessa merita una visita lenta: il villaggio ospita anche il celebrato Monastero del Tassiarca Arcangelo Michele, rendendo la Ceramica Dimitris Stamatis un naturale complemento a qualsiasi mattina o pomeriggio trascorso a esplorare la zona. Unire la gravità spirituale del monastero al mestiere tranquillo e radicato della ceramica offre ai visitatori un senso stratificato di ciò che questo angolo del nord di Lesbo ha preservato attraverso le generazioni.

Cosa aspettarsi
Non appena si entra nel laboratorio, il profumo della terra cotta e la vista di pezzi a vari stadi di lavorazione attorno a un tornio in piena attività rendono subito chiaro che si tratta di uno spazio di lavoro autentico. Oggetti funzionali per l'uso quotidiano convivono con creazioni decorative nei blu, negli ocra e nei terracotta del paesaggio egeo circostante. La visita si abbina in modo del tutto naturale al vicino Monastero dell'Arcangelo Michele Tassiarca, raggiungibile a piedi in pochi minuti.
Periodo migliore
La tarda primavera e l'inizio dell'autunno sono i periodi più tranquilli e piacevoli; luglio e agosto portano più escursionisti nel villaggio.
Come arrivare
Mandamados si trova a circa 45 minuti di auto da Mitilene, percorrendo la strada principale verso nord attraverso l'interno dell'isola. Si seguono le indicazioni per il paese e il monastero del Tassiarca; il laboratorio si trova all'interno del villaggio.

Excellent multi-generational family business. Everything is hand made and decorated in the shop. I have purchased from them over 23 years and the ceramics are high quality, durable, and beautiful. Many styles and colors to choose from. They create simple things like plates, cups, and bowls as well as elaborate decorative vases, hookahs, and decorative plates to display on a wall. If you want a traditional, authentic Greek ceramic piece that will last a lifetime with proper care, they will have something to suit you. The family is very kind, credit cards are accepted, and your purchases are carefully wrapped.

Very beautiful artisic products. Located in a very quiet curve before the village. Logical prices, very kind and helpful owners. I've been in other similar shops but this one had more creativity. They work with love. A must to stop, take a look and take a piece of Lesvos with you to home

Great little family owned and run shop by some very talented ceramic makers. Super nice people, great variety of pottery and reasonable prices. Recommend a drive to Mantamados and a stop here.
