About this Beach
La spiaggia di San Foca si trova sulla costa sud-orientale di Lesbo, a breve distanza in auto dalla capitale dell'isola, Mitilene, il che la rende una fuga preferita dalla gente del posto in cerca di un tratto di costa tranquillo senza allontanarsi troppo dalla città. La spiaggia è composta da piccoli ciottoli levigati e sabbia scura e grossolana, caratteristica di questa costa vulcanica, e l'acqua qui è notevolmente limpida e calma, sufficientemente riparata da essere adatta a nuotatori di ogni abilità. Il mare assume tonalità profonde di turchese e zaffiro a seconda della luce, e l'ingresso relativamente basso la rende accogliente per le famiglie con bambini piccoli.
L'ambiente è senza pretese e rilassato, con la piccola comunità di pescatori di San Foca che conferisce al luogo un carattere autenticamente locale di cui spesso le spiagge più grandi e attrezzate dell'isola sono prive. I servizi sono modesti – una taverna o due nelle vicinanze dove si può mangiare pesce fresco appena pescato in queste acque – ma la spiaggia stessa è in gran parte naturale e non commercializzata. L'ombra è limitata, quindi è consigliabile portare il proprio ombrellone durante il pieno dell'estate. Il paesaggio circostante di bassa macchia e colline rocciose conferisce al posto una qualità grezza ed elementare che premia chi apprezza la natura più delle comodità.
Il periodo migliore per visitarla è la tarda primavera o l'inizio dell'autunno, quando il calore dell'Egeo è più mite, la folla è scarsa e l'acqua si è riscaldata abbastanza per nuotare piacevolmente. A luglio e agosto il vento meltemi può alzarsi lungo questa costa, il che mantiene la temperatura sopportabile ma talvolta rende il mare mosso. La spiaggia di San Foca non apparirà nelle patinate brochure di viaggio, ed è proprio questo il suo fascino – un autentico spaccato della vita quotidiana delle coste di Lesbo, dove il ritmo è lento, il pesce è fresco e l'orizzonte si estende ininterrotto verso la costa turca a pochi chilometri a est.

Cosa aspettarsi
La ghiaia vulcanica e la sabbia scura e grossolana conferiscono ad Agios Fokas una consistenza ruvida che fa capire subito di non trovarsi su una spiaggia attrezzata. Una o due taverne a bordo acqua servono pesce fresco delle stesse barche ormeggiate a pochi metri di distanza, e nelle giornate limpide la costa turca si staglia nitida sull'altro lato dello stretto, aggiungendo un'inattesa profondità geografica a questo angolo tranquillo. L'acqua rimane riparata e trasparente anche nei bassifondi, permettendo di entrare in mare molto gradualmente.
Periodo migliore
Fine maggio–giugno e inizio settembre sono i momenti migliori — il mare è abbastanza caldo per nuotare, la spiaggia è poco affollata e il meltemi che in luglio e agosto può agitare le acque non si è ancora fatto sentire.
Come arrivare
Da Mitilene, si percorre la strada verso sud lungo la costa orientale in direzione del villaggio di Agios Fokas; sulle tortuose strade dell'isola il tragitto richiede circa 45 minuti o un'ora.

Amazing little beach! Very-very clear water but it can be a little cold. Pebbly beach so water shoes are needed! Great for snorkeling especially near the bigger rocks - loads of fish. There are some sun beds - half are reserved for hotel quests but the rest are for public use. Can be quite expensive 30 euros for two, but you get great service, a cold bottle of water in ice tub, a drink (coffee or beer) and a towel for that money. It is very relaxing and quiet as well.

We have been to Agios Fokas beach many times over the years. This year they had renovated the hotel and parts of their beach environment, even though we didn't stay there. It's a calm and relaxing place. The water is crystal clear and the staff are friendly. The only thing to consider is that the beach consists of small or medium sized stones. But that is also the reason for the clear water. Definitely worth to spend a day in the sun here!

Great beach, worth a visit. The sunbeds to be hired to non-hotel guests are limited, so you should be lucky to find one. Still the atmosphere and food was great

Went to Agios Fokas yesterday. There is a fabulous new bar there that is part of the hotel. Sunbeds are very comfortable and are free as long as you eat/drink something. The service was excellent and the food was nice and not crazy prices. The beach is a mixture of dark sand/pebbles. We love snorkeling and this was a great spot for it as the water was crystal clear and swimming around the rocks we saw hundreds of fish!

One of the best beach in Kos island. The sea here is quite and comfortable for swim. No wind and beautiful view.The plaice is free. But you are welcome to order some tasty salats or pizza from the guys. They have bar and kitchen with is serve for enjoyment after relaxing swimming. Here you can find shower and toilet. Everything is works and cared. Do not miss this place, I’m sure you will like it.

This is a gorgeous beach 'club' 20 minutes bus ride from Kos town. Quiet good swimming. Excellent service from the bar. Comfy beds and good umbrellas. Oh and friendly cats!

What a fantastic place! It's beautiful, cozy, comfortable and by the warm welcome and the hospitality you can really tell it's a family business where "feeling at home" is important. I would love to visit again whenever I am in KOS
