About this Beach
Η παραλία του Αγίου Φωκά βρίσκεται στη νοτιοανατολική ακτή της Λέσβου, μόλις λίγα λεπτά με αυτοκίνητο από την πρωτεύουσα του νησιού, τη Μυτιλήνη, γεγονός που την καθιστά αγαπημένο καταφύγιο για τους ντόπιους που αναζητούν μια ήσυχη γωνιά θάλασσας χωρίς να απομακρυνθούν πολύ από την πόλη. Η παραλία είναι στρωμένη με μικρά, στρογγυλεμένα βότσαλα και χοντρόκοκκη σκούρα άμμο, χαρακτηριστικά αυτής της ηφαιστειογενούς ακτογραμμής, ενώ τα νερά της είναι αξιοσημείωτα καθαρά και ήρεμα — αρκετά προφυλαγμένα ώστε να είναι κατάλληλα για κολυμβητές κάθε επιπέδου. Η θάλασσα αποκτά βαθιές αποχρώσεις τιρκουάζ και σαπφείρου ανάλογα με το φως, και η σχετικά ρηχή είσοδος στο νερό την κάνει φιλόξενη για οικογένειες με μικρά παιδιά.
Το περιβάλλον είναι απέριττο και χαλαρό, με τον μικρό ψαράδικο οικισμό του Αγίου Φωκά να προσδίδει στο μέρος έναν αυθεντικά τοπικό χαρακτήρα που λείπει από τις μεγαλύτερες τουριστικές παραλίες του νησιού. Οι ανέσεις είναι λιτές — μια-δυο ταβέρνες στη γύρω περιοχή όπου μπορείτε να απολαύσετε φρέσκο ψάρι βγαλμένο από αυτά ακριβώς τα νερά — η παραλία όμως παραμένει σε μεγάλο βαθμό φυσική και αναλλοίωτη από την εμπορευματοποίηση. Η σκιά είναι περιορισμένη, οπότε συνιστάται να φέρετε μαζί σας ομπρέλα τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες. Το τοπίο γύρω, με τη χαμηλή φρυγανική βλάστηση και τις βραχώδεις πλαγιές, δίνει στο μέρος μια άγρια, πρωτογενή ποιότητα που ανταμείβει όσους εκτιμούν τη φύση περισσότερο από τις ανέσεις.
Η καλύτερη εποχή για επίσκεψη είναι η άνοιξη ή το πρώτο φθινόπωρο, όταν η αιγαιοπελαγίτικη ζέστη είναι πιο ήπια, ο κόσμος λιγοστός και η θάλασσα αρκετά ζεστή για άνετο μπάνιο. Τον Ιούλιο και τον Αύγουστο ο μελτέμης μπορεί να δυναμώσει κατά μήκος αυτής της ακτής, κρατώντας τη θερμοκρασία σε ανεκτά επίπεδα αλλά κάνοντας ορισμένες φορές τη θάλασσα ανήσυχη. Η παραλία του Αγίου Φωκά δεν θα βρείτε σε γυαλιστερά τουριστικά φυλλάδια, και ακριβώς αυτό είναι η γοητεία της — μια αυθεντική γεύση της καθημερινής παράκτιας ζωής της Λέσβου, όπου ο ρυθμός είναι αργός, το ψάρι φρέσκο, και ο ορίζοντας απλώνεται αδιατάρακτος προς την ακτή της Τουρκίας, μόλις λίγα χιλιόμετρα ανατολικά.

Η ηφαιστειακή κροκάλα και η σκούρα άμμος δίνουν στην παραλία Αγίου Φωκά μια ακατέργαστη υφή που δεν θυμίζει σε τίποτα τις τουριστικές παραλίες. Μια-δυο ταβέρνες δίπλα στη θάλασσα σερβίρουν φρέσκο ψάρι από τα καΐκια που αράζουν εκεί κοντά, ενώ σε καθαρή μέρα τα τουρκικά παράλια φαίνονται ξεκάθαρα απέναντι, δίνοντας στον τόπο έναν απρόσμενο γεωγραφικό χαρακτήρα. Η θάλασσα παραμένει ήρεμη και διαυγής ακόμα και στα ρηχά, γεγονός που την καθιστά φιλόξενη για κολύμβηση.
Καλύτερη εποχή
Τέλη Μαΐου–Ιούνιος και αρχές Σεπτεμβρίου είναι ιδανικοί — ζεστή θάλασσα, λίγος κόσμος και χωρίς το μελτέμι που ταράζει τα νερά τον Ιούλιο και τον Αύγουστο.
Πώς θα φτάσετε
Από τη Μυτιλήνη, ακολουθήστε τον δρόμο νότια κατά μήκος της ανατολικής ακτής προς τον οικισμό του Αγίου Φωκά· με τους ελικτούς νησιώτικους δρόμους η διαδρομή διαρκεί περίπου 45 λεπτά έως μία ώρα.

Amazing little beach! Very-very clear water but it can be a little cold. Pebbly beach so water shoes are needed! Great for snorkeling especially near the bigger rocks - loads of fish. There are some sun beds - half are reserved for hotel quests but the rest are for public use. Can be quite expensive 30 euros for two, but you get great service, a cold bottle of water in ice tub, a drink (coffee or beer) and a towel for that money. It is very relaxing and quiet as well.

We have been to Agios Fokas beach many times over the years. This year they had renovated the hotel and parts of their beach environment, even though we didn't stay there. It's a calm and relaxing place. The water is crystal clear and the staff are friendly. The only thing to consider is that the beach consists of small or medium sized stones. But that is also the reason for the clear water. Definitely worth to spend a day in the sun here!

Great beach, worth a visit. The sunbeds to be hired to non-hotel guests are limited, so you should be lucky to find one. Still the atmosphere and food was great

Went to Agios Fokas yesterday. There is a fabulous new bar there that is part of the hotel. Sunbeds are very comfortable and are free as long as you eat/drink something. The service was excellent and the food was nice and not crazy prices. The beach is a mixture of dark sand/pebbles. We love snorkeling and this was a great spot for it as the water was crystal clear and swimming around the rocks we saw hundreds of fish!

One of the best beach in Kos island. The sea here is quite and comfortable for swim. No wind and beautiful view.The plaice is free. But you are welcome to order some tasty salats or pizza from the guys. They have bar and kitchen with is serve for enjoyment after relaxing swimming. Here you can find shower and toilet. Everything is works and cared. Do not miss this place, I’m sure you will like it.

This is a gorgeous beach 'club' 20 minutes bus ride from Kos town. Quiet good swimming. Excellent service from the bar. Comfy beds and good umbrellas. Oh and friendly cats!

What a fantastic place! It's beautiful, cozy, comfortable and by the warm welcome and the hospitality you can really tell it's a family business where "feeling at home" is important. I would love to visit again whenever I am in KOS
