Lesbos herbergt een van de grootste olijfboomgaarden ter wereld, met naar schatting elf miljoen olijfbomen die de heuvels en valleien van het eiland bedekken met zilvergroen. Deze buitengewone overvloed aan olijfhout heeft geleid tot een trotse traditie van houtbewerking, en het Olijfhouthuis bij het dorp Pamfila getuigt van dat erfgoed. Hier wordt het knoestige, dichte hout van oude olijfbomen — hout dat wordt gewaardeerd om zijn warmte, nerf en bijna onverwoestbaarheid — omgevormd tot handgemaakte objecten die de ziel van het eiland dragen in elke bocht en knoest.
Bezoekers kunnen er een zorgvuldig samengestelde selectie van handgemaakte artikelen verwachten, vervaardigd uit lokaal olijfhout: keukengerei, kommen, serveerplanken, decoratieve stukken en kleinere aandenkens die echt betekenisvolle souvenirs vormen. In tegenstelling tot massaproductie draagt elk stuk het natuurlijke karakter van het hout zelf, met zijn kenmerkende honing- en ambertinten, vloeiende nerf en organische onregelmatigheden. De ligging nabij Pamfila, een rustig dorp in het olijfrijke binnenland van het eiland, versterkt het gevoel dat u iets tegenkomt dat authentiek geworteld is in de plek, in plaats van iets dat voor toerisme is opgezet.
Een stop bij het Olijfhouthuis biedt meer dan alleen een winkelmogelijkheid — het is een kans om verbinding te maken met een van de meest duurzame relaties van Lesbos, die tussen de mensen en de oeroude olijfboom. Of u nu op zoek bent naar een praktisch stuk voor uw keuken of een blijvende herinnering aan uw tijd op het eiland, het vakmanschap hier weerspiegelt een traditie die het leven op Lesbos al eeuwenlang vormgeeft. Het is het soort plek dat een opzettelijke omweg beloont.

Wat u kunt verwachten
De winkel is klein en rustig — rekken vol kommen, lepels en snijplanken die u kunt oppakken en in uw handen kunt wegen. Olijfhout heeft een warmte die foto's niet kunnen overbrengen: glad waar het bewerkt is, licht geurig, met honing- en amberkleurige tinten die met het licht meeveranderen. Het is de plek waar u binnenkomt voor een klein cadeautje en vertrekt met een weloverwogen, bewuste keuze.
Beste tijd om te gaan
Geopend van april tot oktober; een doordeweekse ochtend in het late voorjaar of vroege najaar geeft u de winkel bijna voor uzelf.
Hoe er te komen
Pamfila ligt op ongeveer 10 minuten rijden ten noorden van Mytilene, door de olijfgaarden. De winkel bevindt zich in of vlak buiten het dorp.

Beautiful store with most welcoming owner! You leave feeling like family. We learned about the process and how to care for the products. So many wonderful gifts and useful items. So much to see and try. It’s like bringing a piece of Greece and its history home with you. They also have other local made products- loved it all!!!💕💕💕. A must stop for every visit.

The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming. She makes sure that the packaging is very cute and welcomes you in with candy and local lemonade. I heard amazing things about the shop beforehand, but it exceeded my expectations!

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Lesbos! The place is full of passionate and kind people that are rare to come by! Plenty of beautiful, high quality items to browse through and a great opportunity to learn about their process of woodworking. As a wood fanatic like myself I enjoyed observing the master at work. The lady owner is a powerhouse and has plenty of stories to tell. I would recommend going with an empty stomach because she will feed you delicious home made cookies :) thank you for having us!

I have been to olive wood house twice now and had any amazing experience both times. The ladies in the shop are so kind and friendly and took us down to the workshop where we were shown how the items are made. We were even able to help finish off the making of a couple of items. I would highly recommend a visit to this lovely place that sell beautiful, unique items made from olive wood!

This little store is amazing. The owners of this store are so nice and kind! In my opinion it is must vist store, if you are on Lesvos island. Definitley recommend! ... and cookies are very tasty 🤤 and I really liked police patches collection from different countires. Nice collection!

It was the cutest place ever, the lady was so friendly, she offered us bunch of things to eat and drink. All wooden stuff were high quailty and handmade by her husband, who has been doing this for 53 years now. You should definitely visit and buy some nice things for you and your loved ones. They have EVERYTHING!
