Il Limenarchio Mitilinis – l’Autorità Portuale e la Capitaneria di Porto di Mitilene – si trova nel cuore della vita marittima dell’isola, sovrintendendo il vivace porto che da secoli collega Lesbo al più ampio mondo dell’Egeo. Il porto di Mitilene è stato a lungo uno dei più importanti del nord-est dell’Egeo, gestendo traffico di traghetti, pescherecci e imbarcazioni private, e il Limenarchio è il centro nevralgico amministrativo che mantiene tutto in funzione. L’edificio stesso riflette la storia stratificata del lungomare, parte di un distretto portuale plasmato dal commercio di epoca ottomana, dall’amministrazione statale greca e dai ritmi della vita isolana che sono cambiati poco nella loro essenza.
Per i visitatori, il Limenarchio non è tanto una destinazione a sé, quanto un punto di riferimento per comprendere il carattere del fronte mare di Mitilene. Chi arriva in traghetto o ha in programma di partire per isole vicine come Chio o la costa turca può fermarsi qui per le pratiche burocratiche e le informazioni sugli orari che regolano i collegamenti interinsulari e internazionali. La passeggiata portuale circostante, con i suoi caffè, le taverne di pesce e il costante viavai di imbarcazioni, rende questo angolo del lungomare uno dei più animati della città. L’aria porta odore di salsedine e gasolio, il suono delle manovre e il richiamo dei pescatori che rientrano con il pescato del mattino.

Cosa aspettarsi
Attorno alla Capitaneria di Porto regna un'atmosfera da porto autentico e operativo: pescatori che scaricano le reti al mattino presto, passeggeri dei traghetti che consultano gli orari affissi in vetrina, odore di salsedine e gasolio mescolato al caffè delle taverne sul molo. Il ritmo burocratico della vita marittima isolana si svolge qui sotto gli occhi di tutti.
Periodo migliore
Il lungomare è più animato dalla primavera fino all'inizio di ottobre, quando i collegamenti con le isole vicine e la costa turca sono più frequenti e le taverne di pesce lungo la passeggiata lavorano a pieno ritmo.

La Capitaneria si trova direttamente sul lungomare di Mitilene, a pochi minuti a piedi dal terminal dei traghetti — cerchi l'edificio ufficiale affacciato sull'acqua, vicino ai pescherecci ormeggiati.

If you arrived by car, you first park the vehicle in the area indicated by the officer. Then all passengers go through passport control in the same order. After passport control, pedestrian passengers enter Mytilene. For passengers arriving by car, the driver is directed to an officer with their green insurance, passport, and vehicle registration. After the officer gives approval, they go to the vehicle with an approval card, the customs officer checks the vehicle, and if there are no problems, entry is granted.

Excellent hospitality, the police officers who arrested me were polite and good at their job. We played 80s disco music during the deposition, which helped me a lot to overcome the stress of the case. The process ended with summary procedures, while my only complaint is the lack of patience to wash off the fingerprint ink before the kids chased me away, resulting in me having to do it at home with soap, which was quite time-consuming. I highly recommend it as the best place to get arrested even though I don't have much experience. My greetings to the kids, unfortunately they won't see me again because I'm now within the law. Good freedom.

The ferries from Ayvalik Turkey arrive at this port. At least 3 ferries arrive at the same time and suddenly a long line appears for customs control. Once you enter the building it is well maintained with ACs and seats. There are at least 3 counters for passport control, which speeds up the clearance process.
