Panmegiston Taxiarchon Kilisesi — Yunan Ortodoksluğunda göksel orduların komutanları olarak bilinen ve Taxiarchai adıyla anılan baş melekler Mikail ve Cebrail'e adanmış bu yapı — Midilli'nin yemyeşil iç kesimlerinde yer alan Asomatos köyünün ruhani kalbi olarak yükselmektedir. Köyün adı olan Asomatos, Yunancada "bedensel olmayanlar" anlamına gelir ve melekler için kullanılan geleneksel bir sıfattır; yer adı ile inanç arasındaki bu derin dilsel bağ, baş meleklere duyulan saygının bu topluluğun kimliğini ne denli köklü biçimde şekillendirdiğini gözler önüne sermektedir. Bu tür adanmalar Yunan Ortodoksluğunda en sevilen adanmalar arasında yer alır; bu unvanı taşıyan kiliseler çoğunlukla yüksek ya da belirgin konumlarda inşa edilmiştir; zira baş meleklerin göksel bekçiler olarak altta uzanan toprakları koruduğuna inanılmaktadır.
Mimari açıdan kilise, Ege adalarında yaygın olan Bizans sonrası kilise yapım geleneğini izlemektedir: kalın taş duvarlar, sade ama görkemli bir cephe ve gözü ikonostasis'e doğru çeken bir iç mekân düzeni. İçeri adım atan ziyaretçiler, kendilerini Ortodoks köy kiliselerine özgü derin bir huzur atmosferinde bulacaktır; adak lambaları ikonların üzerine sıcak bir ışık dökerken havada hafif balmumu ve tütsü kokusu süzülmektedir. Naos'u kutsal alandan ayıran ikonostasis, iç mekânın odak noktasını oluşturur; Bizans askeri kıyafetleriyle, kılıç ya da asa taşıyan baş melek tasvirleri ise kilisenin ibadet hayatının merkezinde yer alır.
Taxiarchai'nin ana yortu günü sekiz Kasım'a denk gelir; Yunanistan genelindeki köylerde bu gün, ayin, topluluk buluşmaları ve yerel bir panegiri'nin sıcaklığıyla kutlanır. Asomatos bölgesini ziyaret edenler için kilise, hem sessiz bir dinginlik anı hem de Ege yaşamını yüzyıllardır biçimlendiren canlı Ortodoks geleneğiyle hakiki bir buluşma fırsatı sunar. Yortu günü ya da sıradan bir öğleden sonra gelmeniz fark etmez; Panmegiston Taxiarchon, adanın ruhani ve kültürel mirasının yakın ve zamansız hissettirdiği bir mekândır.

Asomatos köyü, Midilli'den merkezi tepelerden geçen yaklaşık 14 kilometrelik yolda, 25–30 dakikalık pittoresk bir sürüşle ulaşılabilir. Kilise köyün içinde yer alır ve ana girişten kolayca görülebilir.

10 minutes from the city of Mytilene in the Kagiani area is the Church of the Archangels, which is a must-visit! Beautiful church, ancient icons and in the courtyard there is a cafe and refreshments... the church is a "miniature", if I may say so, of the Mantamada monastery... truly awe-inspiring and awe-inspiring... it is worth going up for a pilgrimage...

6 km from the city, on a hill in Kagiani, is the Church of the Great Archangels. In a place with an incredible view that you can see all the way to the port of Mytilene. The church with a great history, dominates and looks over all of Mytilene. Inside the church there are also the footprints of the Archangel that you can see. An imposing church and then you can drink your coffee with an incredible view. It is worth visiting.

A beautiful church, in the style of the churches of Lesvos, it is quite reminiscent of Mantamado. It is logically not as imposing as that one, it lacks the famous icon, but it is beautiful there too

It's a really nice church, well-maintained and it's open to visitors. It has a square outside of the church and a tap if you need water. It also has a cafeteria if you'd like to sit and have something to drink /eat.

When you are in Mytilene, 6 km from the city, the Temple of Taxiarches is located on a hill in Kagiani. In a place with an incredible view that you can see all the way to the port of Mytilene. The temple with a great history, dominates and looks over the whole of Mytilene. Inside the temple there are also the footprints of Taxiarches that you can see. Right outside the temple there is a cafe where you can sit and enjoy your coffee, seeing the beautiful view of the city and the sea. It is worth a visit to Taxiarches both as a pilgrimage and as a walk.💯

We visited this church courtyard on the way home from a restaurant. There had been a christening earlier and so there were lots of people still around. There's a really good view of the Aegean from here....it's almost worth thinking about attending an actual service!
