Lovely small archeological collection. Make sure to have cash for the entry fee. The lady there was very knowledgeable though I'm afraid only in Greek.
About
Tucked within the village of Eressos, just a short distance from the sun-drenched beach resort of Skala Eresou, the Archaeological Collection of Eressos offers a fascinating window into one of Lesvos's most historically significant ancient settlements. Eressos was one of the six great cities of ancient Lesvos, and it is celebrated above all as the birthplace of Sappho, the seventh-century BC lyric poet whose verses helped define the classical tradition. The collection brings together local archaeological finds — including pottery, coins, inscriptions, sculpture fragments, and everyday objects — recovered from excavations in and around the ancient city site, painting a vivid picture of life here across many centuries.
Visitors stepping inside will find a thoughtfully arranged display that spans prehistoric through Byzantine periods, reflecting the long continuum of human presence in this corner of the island. Even for those more drawn to the beach than to antiquity, a visit here adds meaningful depth to the experience of being in Eressos, grounding the landscape in its remarkable past. The museum is modest in scale but rich in local character, and its proximity to the main square of Eressos village makes it an easy and rewarding stop before or after exploring the nearby ruins of the ancient acropolis or relaxing along the coast.
Before you go
What to expect
Inside this small collection, coins, inscribed stones, and pottery fragments from ancient Eressos share space with objects from prehistoric and Byzantine layers — each one excavated from the ground you are standing on. The connection to Sappho, born here in the seventh century BC, gives the display an added resonance that even casual visitors tend to feel. Plan 30–45 minutes; the modest scale means nothing gets lost in sprawl.
Best time to visit
Late April through June or September through October keeps the heat manageable and pairs well with a walk to the nearby ancient acropolis ruins.
How to get there
Eressos village sits roughly 90 minutes' drive west of Mytilene; follow the road toward Kalloni then swing southwest, and the collection is near the central square of the village.

Unfortunately we went twice (the first at 1:20 PM and the second at 11:00 AM) and they were closed... what a shame!

A larger space is needed where more finds can be exhibited.
Also in Skala Eresou
