About
Joanna's Rooms offers comfortable, welcoming accommodation in Skala Eresou, the laid-back seaside village on Lesvos's western coast renowned for its long sandy beach and unhurried pace of life. This style of family-run guesthouse is a cornerstone of Greek island hospitality — personally managed, simply furnished, and oriented around making guests feel at home rather than like hotel visitors. Staying in rooms like these puts you within easy reach of the village's beachfront tavernas, cafes, and the gentle Aegean waters that have drawn travellers to Skala Eresou for generations.
Skala Eresou itself carries cultural and historical weight as the birthplace of Sappho, the ancient lyric poet whose legacy draws visitors from around the world, lending the village a distinctive, free-spirited atmosphere unlike anywhere else on the island. Joanna's Rooms makes an ideal base for exploring not just the beach and village life, but also the wider western Lesvos landscape — the petrified forest at Sigri, the wild volcanic hills, and the quieter roads that connect these far-flung corners of the island. For travellers who prefer authentic, locally rooted stays over resort anonymity, a guesthouse like this delivers exactly that.
Before you go
What to expect
You wake up a short walk from one of the longest sandy beaches in the Aegean, with sea air drifting through simply furnished rooms. The family-run character means someone who knows the village well is usually on hand — the kind of place where breakfast tips about the best swimming spot are part of the stay. Evenings settle into the unhurried rhythm of Skala Eresou: a table at a beachfront taverna, the last light fading over the water.
Best time to visit
June through September for swimming; late May and early October are quieter and still warm, avoiding the August peak.
How to get there
From Mytilene, allow roughly 1.5 to 2 hours driving west through olive groves and volcanic hills — the road winds considerably once past Kalloni. A rental car gives the most flexibility for reaching the western villages.

We have a great triple room for two in this very cozy family run hotel in a quiet neighbourhood at the western end of Skala Eresou. The room is the former mini market I shopped in for 20 years ago. Thus it has a very big terrace, which is partly covered. With views to the sea nearby and the hills. If it gets too hot on the private terrace, there is a cool and cozy sitting group at the room entrance. Restaurants, shops, a fine beach and trekking paths are just around the corner. We came with a motor bike, which we could park in the shadow on the family’s private parking. The room is spacious, clean and bright. It has windows on two sides, with mosquito nets. This gives great natural air flow and cooling. AC exists also, but we do not need it, even with temperatures close to 35 C. There is a small but modern bathroom with a window. The kitchen is functional with a normal size fridge. The mattress is fine. We are very pleased with this accomodation and can warmly recommend it.

Our worst experience in Ereso! We had booked a room 5 days before arriving on a Saturday night looking for our room! There was no host except a lady and a young man who would serve us and because there had been some confusion they would take us to someone they knew the accommodation! bathroom with a hanging shower and a basin without a sink, a basket in general, the basics! it was with very low lighting, dirty sheets and broken pillows! when we turned to address the main lady, she told us how do you do this one night with a lot of irony! I'm sorry that there are such professionals in such a beautiful place and after 90 kilometers of road when you go for a weekend to relax they treat you like this! All this if not we were talking, we would pay 50 euros as we had agreed when we booked! luckily we took it upon ourselves to find a room that night and we fell into the hands of a kind hostess with a very worthy room!

August 2023 after 18 nights in various accommodations on the island the worst with various The bed linens were dirty and the shower with hair from the previous guests the mirror shelf in the bathroom was broken the double bed was ready to be dismantled There wasn't even a second toilet paper In the children's triple room the shutter was broken. It's a shame there is no evaluation service before they enter Booking 😡😡😡😢😢😢

Very clean room, not very impressive at first as all the furniture is old. However, the mattress and pillows are the best we have ever slept on. Very economical considering the location. The owners are always there if you need them and they have a mini market right below so you have access to anything you need We will definitely choose it again!!

Negatives: A little expensive for end of season, had one sheet on the two beds, and 2 single thin summery blankets, was looking forward to a hot shower at the end of a long day but water was luke warm. Positives: It was a good location for us, free parking nearby, the owners also have a mini market on the same premises. The room contains a separate kitchen and balcony and rooms are clean and quiet.

Simple, clean, great location, great price, good parking, right by the ocean! Loved the owners. Had a little mini mart, which was super convenient. Refugee friendly. Stay here and support them!
