Visitors say

This beach is very long and wonderfully peaceful. The road to it is on unpaved roads, but it's easily accessible by car. If you enjoy peace and quiet, this is a must-see. In July, we were one of only two people to visit the beach. Be sure to bring your own food and drinks, as there are no taverns.

About

Kampos Beach is a welcoming stretch of coastline near the village of Kampos in northern Lesvos, offering visitors a quieter alternative to the more frequented shores elsewhere on the island. The beach sits within a landscape shaped by the volcanic geology and olive-covered hills that define this part of the Aegean, giving it a distinctly unhurried, local character. Here you can settle into the rhythm of the island without the crowds, with clear waters that reflect the deep blues typical of this corner of the northern Aegean.

As a beachside establishment, Kampos Beach provides the essentials that make a long day by the sea genuinely comfortable — sunbeds and shade, refreshments, and the kind of relaxed hospitality that northern Lesvos is known for. Whether you are cooling off after exploring the Byzantine heritage and petrified forest landscapes of the island's interior, or simply looking for a place to anchor a lazy afternoon, the facility makes the most of its natural setting without overwhelming it.

The surrounding area rewards those who linger. The village of Kampos itself carries the quiet authenticity of rural Lesvos, with traditional stone architecture and a pace of life that feels far removed from mass tourism. Stopping at Kampos Beach is as much about absorbing the atmosphere of this less-travelled corner of the island as it is about the swim itself — a place where the sea, the light, and the warmth of local welcome come together in the unassuming way that makes Lesvos genuinely distinctive.

Before you go

What to expect

The water here is calm and clear, backed by olive-covered hills and the dark volcanic rock typical of northern Lesvos. Sunbeds and refreshments are on hand, making it easy to spend a full afternoon without needing to plan ahead. The crowd tends to be local — families from nearby villages rather than organised tour groups.

Best time to visit

June through September for swimming; the beach stays noticeably quieter than the island's southern shores even at the height of summer.

How to get there

Plan for roughly an hour's drive from Mytilene, heading northwest through Kalloni and then north toward Kampos village. The road winds through olive groves and becomes more rural as you get closer.

It will be a very beautiful beach when there is no wind. When we were there, it was incredibly windy.

It would have been nice beach but the road is for adventurous people with good insurance and there are no facilities in the beach. Most probably you could be alone in the beach 🏖️

Near Gavathas, you reach a long and pristine beach after turning off the main road onto a narrow road where two cars cannot pass side-by-side. By pristine, I mean there are no facilities or man-made structures on the beach. There are 8-10 houses about 700-800 meters away from the beach, but they don't overlook it; they're surrounded by reeds, sand dunes, and wild, maquis-like vegetation. The sea was very rough the day we went, but I don't know what it's like generally. In short, it didn't suit us very well, but for nature lovers and camping enthusiasts, it's a truly secluded place, far from civilization and immersed in nature. It's a good idea to prepare with food, drinks, an umbrella for shade (there are no trees), and other shelter necessities.
