About
Nestled in or near the storied village of Agiasos, the ceramics laboratory of Dimitris Chatzigiannis represents a living thread in Lesvos's long tradition of artisan craftsmanship. Agiasos itself is one of the most culturally vibrant villages on the island, known for its winding stone-paved lanes, Ottoman-era architecture, and a creative spirit that has long attracted artists and craftspeople. A ceramics workshop rooted in this environment carries that same sense of place — pieces shaped here are not merely decorative objects but expressions of the Aegean landscape, its earthy tones, its textures, and its unhurried rhythms.
Visitors to Chatzigiannis's studio can expect to encounter handcrafted ceramic work produced with genuine attention to material and tradition. Whether browsing finished pieces or watching the craft in progress, there is an immediacy to a working laboratory that distinguishes it from a simple shop. The smell of clay, the turning of a wheel, and the quiet focus of a craftsman at work offer a window into a way of making things that has persisted on this island for centuries, rooted in necessity and elevated into art.
For travelers moving through the Agiasos area — whether exploring the lush chestnut forests of the island's interior or stopping to admire the village's celebrated carnival heritage — this ceramics studio makes for a meaningful detour. Authentic, locally made ceramics are among the most honest souvenirs a visitor can carry home, and a piece from Chatzigiannis's workshop would serve as a lasting reminder of Lesvos's quieter, more enduring character.
Before you go
What to expect
In the cobblestone heart of Agiasos, this working studio is as much about process as product — you might catch Dimitris at the wheel, shaping clay with the focused calm of someone who has spent years at it. The pieces reflect the muted earth tones of the island's interior: olive greens, terracotta, and the warm greys of Aegean stone. It's a quiet, unhurried stop where the craft speaks for itself.
Best time to visit
Spring and autumn are ideal — Agiasos's mountain setting keeps temperatures comfortable, and the village is pleasantly uncrowded outside the summer months.
How to get there
Agiasos sits in the forested interior of the island, roughly a 30-minute drive from Mytilene heading southwest through pine and chestnut hillsides into the village center.

You need to visit this place if you're on Lesvos! Dimitris is a master of the art, with his own unique spin to designs which run several generations back. Visiting his workshop and talking to him makes a visit to Agiasos already worthwile. Prices are also extremely fair

But why do you leave a negative evaluation? It was closed because my son was in hospital!
