About
Nestled near the shores of Skala Kalloni, the Malemi Hotel offers a comfortable base for exploring one of Lesvos's most rewarding corners. Skala Kalloni sits at the edge of the Kalloni Gulf, a sheltered inland sea renowned across Europe as a premier birdwatching destination, and the hotel places guests within easy reach of the salt pans and wetlands that draw ornithologists and nature lovers each spring. The surrounding landscape is gentle and pastoral, with olive groves and fishing boats adding to the unhurried rhythm of daily life.
The Malemi Hotel provides the kind of relaxed, unpretentious hospitality that characterises the best of Greek island accommodation. Guests can expect straightforward, well-kept rooms and a welcoming atmosphere that suits both those passing through on a longer island circuit and those choosing to linger and settle into the local pace. The proximity to the waterfront village of Skala Kalloni means fresh seafood tavernas and the simple pleasures of an evening stroll along the quay are always close at hand.
For visitors seeking a quiet retreat away from the busier resorts of the island's north and south coasts, the Malemi Hotel offers genuine value as a gateway to a less-touristed side of Lesvos. Whether you are arriving in the peak spring season to witness the spectacular migratory bird passage across the gulf, or simply looking for a peaceful corner of the island to unwind, this modest hotel delivers comfort, convenience, and a sense of place that keeps guests coming back.
Before you go
What to expect
The hotel sits in the unhurried fishing village of Skala Kalloni, where the Kalloni Gulf stretches out in front and salt pans line the road into town. Mornings here often start with birdsong rather than traffic — the surrounding wetlands draw serious ornithologists with telescopes set up near the water. Evenings settle naturally into fresh fish at a quayside taverna.
Best time to visit
Spring (April–May) is the prime window for migratory birdwatching; summer brings warm, quiet days with fewer birds and a slower village pace.
How to get there
Skala Kalloni is roughly 35–40 minutes by car from Mytilene, heading northwest across the island's central plain.

An average no frills Greek hotel, we went with Jet 2 breakfast only. The breakfast was good and the staff were excellent. I would recommend as it is very good value and has a good location

It's basically One flew over The Cuckoos Nest. It's like visiting a friend who you care about in a mental institution. You tell them it looks ok here and you'll get through it but deep down you just want to leave and when they ask you if you will come back next week you reassure them and say you will but you never do. I had breakfast there and was getting my coffee and a bloke in the queue was shuffling around and I was thinking what's he up to, the people in the queue behind me were looking at me thinking I was holding the queue up so I grabbed a coffee and left the queue. The bloke then sat opposite me and then proceeded to eat 12 boiled eggs and I'm thinking no way, that's impossible but I couldn't stop watching, it's impossible. He got up and walked back to the counter and took another 4 boiled eggs, put them in his pocket and left. I got another coffee and sat back down again and I'm thinking no way that's impossible, maybe I was out in the sun too long. I've never seen anything like this before. He then re-entered the dining place and walked over to the eggs. I'm thinking, not a chance he's not going to go for more eggs. He did......12 more eggs. This a true story. And a big thank you to the the kind gentleman and lady who gave me some ibuprofen on the day of departure for my back. They were really nice.

- Rooms: ok, but could be cleaner, in particular the furniture. - Breakfast: nothing fancy; no fresh fruit available; one time no butter available (only margarine); cheese in slices; one sort of bread was good, the other one had a taste of baking soda, it fills the stomach - Dinner far beneath 3-star ! Verry low quality and not a lot to do with Greek cuisine except the tzatziki; more farinaceous than vegetable based, the latter too much cocked (at the limit of mash); potatoes in a lot of oil; most time a kind of minced meat and only once in 2 weeks fish (limited quantity, of course). Sometimes, even tasting did not reveal what we were eating… Dinner time was from 19:00-20:30 except when they have a party for people from outside. You will simply be informed that the next day dinner will be at 18:00. The location is perfect for birdwatchers, but we don't like exotic birds and exotic animals in cages. The WiFi in the room was very bad and often not available at all. The hotel accepts dogs which is ok for me as long as they are not barking in the middle of the night, which happened on a regular base.

An upmarket back-packing hostel! O.K. maybe a bit harsh but needs to up its game. Better selection of food (both dinner and breakfast) and someone at the bar to serve drinks when required, not when Mickey (owner/manageress) happens to be free. A happy-go-lucky establishment that you'd be happy with at a budget price but not at the rates charged.

Rooms are clean and cleaned every day except Sunday. Clean sheets and towels a few times each week. Food was plentiful and tasty. However, the location is a bit remote. There is a village approximately 10/15 minute walk. Restaurants, quite a few other than that there are 2 souvenir shops and 2 small supermarkets. The long beach is sandy but the sea, apart from the very far end where the sunbeds are. is full of very long seaweed but still a lovely place.

I have stayed at many 3 star hotels in Greece 🇬🇷 and this is our 3rd stay in Lesvos (previously staying in Petra) and unfortunately this is the worst. The hotel is very tired, with many maintenance issues throughout the hotel eg wood surround hanging off above door, handles missing off drawers, bath screen not moving. The grounds of the hotel needs attention and looks very unkept. Looks like the staff have given up. Breakfast was typical continental. No atmosphere and it's not good that a very young girl is serving at the poolside bar. Not professional. Unfortunately I will not be returning.

I would highly recommend staying here with family or friends! Very quiet environment and perfect for a relaxing time! Most of the food is fresh from the garden and farm, and there is always a wide variety of food for everyone. The staff welcomes you ,so you feel like family. It is the perfect place to experience pure Greek culture. The beach is just a short five minute walk from the hotel. Next time you are in Lesvos, stay here!

We loved the hotel since everything was organized for the kids. Kids pool, playground with many toys, small zoo. The food was delicious. The staff was so friendly. They serve the same food cooked with beef, if the served one having pork. But the beach was not nice so you may need travel around. Therefor having car is highly recommended.
