Vasilas apartments
About
Nestled near the quiet village of Tavari in the heart of Lesvos, Vasilas Apartments offers a comfortable and unpretentious base for travellers who want to explore the island at their own pace. The surrounding landscape is quintessentially Lesbian — rolling hills draped in olive groves, the air carrying the faint resinous scent of the trees that have shaped this island's identity and economy for millennia. Staying here puts guests away from the bustle of the coastal resorts, in a part of Lesvos where daily life moves to a slower, more authentic rhythm.
The apartments provide the kind of self-catering independence that suits visitors planning to venture out across the island's diverse terrain. From this central location, the volcanic landscape of the Petrified Forest to the west, the medieval village of Agiasos to the south, and the therapeutic thermal springs at Polichnitos are all within comfortable driving distance. Guests can return from a day of exploration to a space that feels genuinely local rather than resort-packaged, making it an appealing choice for those who prefer to feel like temporary residents rather than tourists.
Vasilas Apartments represents the kind of family-run hospitality that Lesvos does quietly and well — modest, warm, and rooted in a genuine welcome. For travellers who want to use Lesvos as more than a beach destination and instead engage with its landscapes, villages, and cultural depth, having a reliable and comfortable retreat in the island's interior makes the difference between a holiday and a real encounter with this remarkable Aegean island.
Before you go
What to expect
Staying at Vasilas puts you in the olive-grove interior of Lesvos, where mornings are quiet and the pace of Tavari village sets the tone for the day. The self-catering apartments are a practical, unfussy base — suited to people who plan to be out exploring and need somewhere genuinely comfortable to return to. The family who runs the place brings a warmth that feels earned rather than performative.
Best time to visit
Late May through June and September are the sweet spot — heat is manageable, the inland roads are uncrowded, and day trips to the Petrified Forest or Polichnitos springs are genuinely pleasant.
How to get there
Tavari is roughly an hour's drive west from Mytilene along the cross-island roads; a rental car is essential both for reaching the apartments and for making the most of the surrounding area.

We chose Skala Eresou because it was close. However, the road is winding and a bit far. The town is quite quiet, with a few restaurants on the beach. The rooms weren't cleaned every day. The view from the room is spectacular. Kitchen supplies are provided, and the kitchen is functional. The garden is suitable for children's play and is safe.

Unacceptable service, they had us waiting in the hot room to prepare the room at 1:30 pm while we had informed them that we would go in the morning, we booked the rooms in June because we know what happens in August and there was none available and the main thing is that they show rooms in the photos and give you others, they put us in a house from the 70s that smelled and you could see the neighbor's wall. unacceptable
