Kalo Limani Beach
About this Beach
Kalo Limani is a small sandy beach tucked below the village of Skalochori on the Gulf of Kalloni. It fills with local families during peak afternoon hours — this is a beach where everyone knows everyone, and outsiders are welcomed with the quiet curiosity of a village that rarely sees tourists. The main draw beyond the swimming is the fish restaurant at the harbour, widely considered one of the best on the island for simple grilled fish served straight from the boats moored alongside. The combination of intimate scale, genuinely local atmosphere, and exceptional seafood makes Kalo Limani a destination for those who have moved beyond the beaches listed in guidebooks.
Before you go
What to expect
A compact harbour beach where fishing boats bob a few metres from your towel and the smell of grilling fish drifts over from the waterfront restaurant. Afternoons bring local families who treat this as their own backyard — the pace is unhurried and conversations happen naturally. Arrive hungry: the seafood here comes off the boats moored right at the quay.
Best time to visit
June through September for swimming; come on a weekday in July or August to avoid the local weekend crowd.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head west toward Kalloni and then south along the Gulf of Kalloni toward Skalochori — roughly an hour's drive. The beach sits just below the village, where the road meets the harbour.
