Kampos Beach
About this Beach
Kampos Antissa is one of the longest and wildest beaches on Lesvos, stretching along the northwest coast in a sweep of sand, rock, and driftwood. The beach attracts surfers when conditions are right, and its sheer length means you can always find a stretch of coastline to yourself. The terrain alternates between sandy sections and rocky outcrops, and the water can be rough — this is an open-ocean beach exposed to the prevailing winds. There is little infrastructure beyond a seasonal kantina, which is precisely the point. Kampos appeals to those who want their beaches raw and solitary, backed by the dramatic volcanic landscape of western Lesvos.
Before you go
What to expect
The wind arrives before you do — you hear the sea long before you see it. Driftwood and wave-worn rock break up the sand, giving the shoreline a sculptural, almost elemental quality, while the volcanic hills closing in behind deepen the sense of true remoteness. Bring everything you need; the kantina operates only in summer and the nearest shops are several kilometres back.
Best time to visit
June through September for swimming, though the northwest winds build in July and August — ideal for surfers, but rougher for a relaxed float.
How to get there
From Mytilene, follow the main road northwest through Kalloni and continue toward Antissa; the drive covers roughly 80–90 km and takes about an hour and a half.
