About

Tucked in the mountainous heart of Lesvos near the village of Agiasos, Casa di Nonno — Italian for "Grandfather's House" — captures the spirit of a place shaped by memory, warmth, and unhurried hospitality. Agiasos itself is one of the island's most cherished villages, a labyrinth of cobbled lanes, stone archways, and Ottoman-era houses gathered around the historic Church of the Panagia, which has drawn pilgrims for centuries. Against this backdrop of deep-rooted tradition, Casa di Nonno offers visitors a welcoming refuge with a name that speaks to its character: the kind of place that feels inherited, personal, and lived-in.

The Italian moniker hints at a sensibility that bridges cultures — perhaps a nod to the Mediterranean connections that have long woven through this part of the Aegean — while the setting grounds it firmly in Lesbian village life. Whether stopping in for a coffee, a meal, or simply a moment of rest after exploring Agiasos's winding streets and vibrant central square, guests are likely to find an atmosphere that prizes character over polish. This is the sort of place where local ingredients, genuine hospitality, and a relaxed pace define the experience far more than any menu or décor.

For travelers making their way into the island's interior, a stop at Casa di Nonno offers more than refreshment — it offers a point of connection to the quieter, more intimate side of Lesvos that lies beyond the coastal resorts. Agiasos rewards those who linger, and Casa di Nonno provides exactly the kind of anchor that makes lingering feel natural.

Before you go

What to expect

The name — Grandfather's House — sets expectations accurately: this feels less like a restaurant and more like dropping in on someone who is genuinely pleased to see you. Settle in for a coffee or a meal after wandering Agiasos's cobbled lanes, and the unhurried pace of the place does the rest. Local ingredients and character over polish define the experience.

Best time to visit

Late spring through early autumn works well; August brings festival crowds to Agiasos, so May–June or September reward those seeking a quieter atmosphere.

How to get there

From Mytilene, drive inland toward Agiasos through forested mountain roads — allow around 35–40 minutes. Casa di Nonno sits within the village itself, easy to find once you're among the stone-paved lanes.

It was my first time visiting this island and I immediately felt such a familiar environment... I loved it as if it were my own grandfather's house; a warm and loving home. The owner, Mr. Taxiarchis, kind and discreet, had made sure that our vacation started with the best impressions. In addition to the wonderful and tasteful accommodation, he welcomed us with an ouzo and a fully equipped kitchen (oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, fruit, coffee, tea, jams), so that nothing was missing. The best moment was sunrise, when from the peaceful balcony you could see the village like a picture and enjoy your first coffee. The day ended with a relaxing jacuzzi and, then, with absolute rest on the king-size mattresses that gave you a sweet sleep. I didn't feel like I left a simple accommodation, but like I found a second home. Every time I return here, I know that my soul will be filled with new images. Every cell of my body was revived, my soul was at peace, because in the end, it's not just the destination that matters, but also the place you stay.
