About
Lesvos is one of the great olive islands of the Mediterranean, home to millions of trees that have shaped its landscape and economy for centuries, and the Eftalou Olive Grove sits within one of the island's most evocative corners. Nestled near the quiet coastal settlement of Eftalou, just a short distance from the historic town of Molyvos, this grove offers visitors an authentic encounter with the living agricultural heritage that defines the island. The ancient trees here, their silver-green canopies rippling in the Aegean breeze, are a reminder that Lesbian olive oil has been prized since antiquity and continues to be produced with deep pride by local families today.
A visit to the Eftalou Olive Grove is a chance to step off the tourist trail and into the rhythms of traditional island life. Depending on the season, guests may witness the grove in full productive activity — the nets spread beneath the trees during the autumn harvest, the careful hand-picking that preserves the fruit, or the quiet summer growth that precedes it. The setting itself, with the North Aegean glittering in the distance and the volcanic hills of northern Lesvos rising behind, makes this a place of genuine natural beauty quite apart from its agricultural significance.
For visitors interested in understanding what makes Lesvos more than just a beautiful island, stops like this one are essential. The olive tree is woven into the island's identity — its culture, its cuisine, its economy, and its landscape — and experiencing a working grove firsthand offers context that no museum can fully replicate. Whether you come to learn about the production of extra virgin olive oil, to purchase local products directly, or simply to walk beneath trees that may have stood for hundreds of years, the Eftalou Olive Grove rewards the curious traveller with a quietly profound connection to this island's oldest traditions.
Before you go
What to expect
The trees here are enormous and ancient, their gnarled trunks wider than a person's armspan, standing in rows tended for generations. In autumn you'll find nets spread on the ground and the quiet work of harvest underway; in summer the grove is cool and still, with the sea glinting between the hills to the north. It's a grounding, unhurried kind of place.
Best time to visit
October and November bring the olive harvest and the most atmospheric activity; spring is quieter with soft light and cooler temperatures.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head north along the main road toward Molyvos — the drive takes roughly one and a half to two hours. Eftalou is a small coastal settlement just beyond Molyvos along the shore road.

I absolutely loved everything about this place - beautiful house in a stunning location, just a few steps from the sea and a short walk to the hot springs and secluded beaches, with the charming town of Molivos on one side and the mountains on the other. The appartment is cosy and has everything you need. The owners were so friendly and attentive, making sure I was happy and comfortable and giving helpful tips. I originally booked 1 night and stayed 3, I wish I had stayed even longer.

Mr. Yannis, the owner of the hotel, is a very caring and helpful person. We stayed 2 nights, the hotel is cozy and there are all kinds of household appliances in the rooms. A great place if you want an authentic vacation. There is the sea in front of the hotel, if you wish, you can go to the beaches 3-4 km ahead by car. Price / Quality performance is quite good

I kindly request the owners of Olive Grove to contact me as soon as they see this review. I have made a reservation by phone since the end of March and I want to confirm it. Please pick up the phone and inform the site that the landline is not working!!

Beautiful spaces that require constant care. On the plus side, the sea opposite, the view of the Turkish coast, the coolness even in the heat, the short distance from Golden Beach and the Eftalous thermal spring. On the minus side, the traffic on the road and sometimes exhaust fumes. The unsatisfactory maintenance of the beautiful rooms. Be careful because the upper rooms have stairs and an additional narrow staircase to the bedroom.
