About
The scenic harbour of Molyvos offers a picturesque setting for waterside walks and relaxation. Visitors often encounter local musicians playing traditional rembetiko music from fishing boats, creating an authentic Mediterranean atmosphere. Essential for experiencing local life.
Before you go
What to expect
The harbour is the natural pulse of the village, where fishing boats return at dawn and visitors settle into waterside café chairs to watch the day unfold. Salt air and the scent of grilling seafood from nearby tavernas mix as cats patrol the stone quay and colourful caïques rock gently at their moorings. Evenings bring a softer mood — the water turns amber and the waterfront fills with the low hum of conversation.
Best time to visit
Late May through June and again in September offer the most comfortable visit — warm enough to linger but without the July-August crowds.
How to get there
Molyvos is about an hour's drive north from Mytilene along the main northern road. The harbour sits at the foot of the village and is easy to reach on foot from wherever you park.

What a beautiful spot! The view is absolutely stunning, with little cafes and restaurants lined up right next to the boats. It feels so charming and traditional — exactly the kind of place you want to stroll through, sit down, and enjoy a coffee or meal while watching the world go by. So cute, authentic, and full of atmosphere. A must-visit if you’re in the area!

A charming village with narrow streets, filled with shops offering a variety of souvenirs, as well as art and jewelry stores featuring beautiful, locally made creations. Bakeries, cafés, and restaurants add to the experience, a true paradise for travelers. The views are breathtaking, with glimpses of the blue sea and sailboats of all sizes from every corner. An absolute delight for visitors, highly recommended!

Molyvos harbour is beautiful, though you do have to be on the lookout for traffic in the walk up to and around it. It is a working harbour, so has many excellent restaurants that specialise in seafood that the local fishermen bring in. Sometimes you can see their wares hanging up by the docks. We saw tentacles for calamari hanging out to dry while we where there. I can personally recommend the seahorse restaurant, their swordfish is excellent and comes as a very generous portion. The fact that the staff where welcoming and friendly was a bonus. There are a few talented local artisans and craftsmen that have stores in Molyvos, and many of them are dotted about the harbour. So it's a good spot to either go souvenir shopping for yourself if you want a handmade olivewood chess set, or gift shopping if you are looking for a tasteful fridge magnet or bottle stopper for family back home. Some of the jewelry available is beautiful. You can book activities from the local travel agents there and most of the boat excursions run from the harbour itself. The views there (as most of the west side of the island) are exceptional and highlight the wonderful atmosphere for shopping, socialising and dining. The coastal road train also runs here, so it can save your legs the trouble of walking over the edge of the mountain to reach it, or the hassle of finding a parking spot along the cobbled road that leads to it. I recommend that you come in the evening when most of the trendier bars and shops start to open. It's a good place to end the day with a meal after a trip up the mountain to see the castle and shop at the many places that litter the tree shaded streets above.

This is a wonderful harbour area. Brilliant place to stay or visit for the day/evening. Wonderful sunsets over the end of the harbour wall. Lots of popular restaurants with lovely food (we sampled 3 right down on the harbour and enjoyed them all). Great atmosphere around the harbour at night and busy, although much quieter during the day (or was in early July). Lovely place to wander about in the day and look at the restaurants/bars and plan where you want to eat and then look around the boats in the harbour. There were also a few interesting police and border-force boats to look at when we were there. Although this is a busy harbour the tourism hasn’t spoilt it at all (unlike other places in Greece) so a real testament to the town.

Probably one of the finest spots in whole Lesvos Island. There are many tavernas around the little harbor, even in off season you can find places to dine for your liking.

Overlooking the harbor from above is also very satisfying. There are great cafés and restaurant on the way going down from the Molivos castle.
