About
Located on the outskirts of Molyvos, one of Lesvos's most visited and visually striking medieval villages, this public parking area serves as a practical gateway for visitors arriving by car. Molyvos — also known as Mythimna — draws travelers with its cobblestone lanes, cascading stone houses, and the imposing Byzantine-Genoese castle that crowns the hilltop above the Aegean. Because the village center is largely pedestrianized and its narrow streets were built for donkeys rather than automobiles, having a dedicated parking area nearby is genuinely valuable for day-trippers and overnight guests alike.
Leaving your vehicle here allows you to explore Molyvos on foot at your own pace, wandering through its artisan shops, traditional tavernas, and sun-drenched harbor without the stress of navigating tight medieval lanes. The parking area is a convenient starting point for the short walk into the heart of the village, making it a sensible first stop before heading up toward the castle, down to the waterfront, or along the scenic coastal path. Whether you are visiting for an afternoon or basing yourself in the area for several days, this facility helps make the most of a village that rewards unhurried exploration.
Before you go
What to expect
You leave the car here and enter Molyvos the way it was always meant to be approached — on foot, on stone, with the castle silhouette already visible above the rooftops. The walk from the parking area to the first medieval lanes is short, and from that point the village opens up in all directions: uphill toward the castle, downhill to the waterfront, or along the harbor. It is a genuinely useful facility in a place where driving further is simply not an option.
Best time to visit
Late spring and early autumn are the most comfortable for the uphill walk to the castle and see noticeably fewer cars competing for space; July and August fill up quickly as Molyvos is one of the most visited villages on the island.
How to get there
Molyvos is about an hour to an hour and a half from Mytilene by car along the northern coastal road; the parking area sits at the approach to the village, easy to spot before the old lanes begin.
