The BEST restaurant in Petra. Not only the food is excellent, the service is outstanding. The fish is so fresh, the tomatoes for their Greek salad are the best I’ve ever had. Please don’t miss out on the pizza. It is sooooo good!
Amazing food, kind staff, excellent atmosphere! It is definettely a very good choise in Petra.
About
Oliva is a restaurant situated near the charming village of Petra on the northern coast of Lesvos, where the island's celebrated olive groves and Aegean setting provide an evocative backdrop for dining. The name itself nods to one of Lesvos's most defining features — its ancient olive trees, some of which are among the oldest in the Mediterranean — and suggests a kitchen that draws inspiration from the island's rich agricultural heritage and the honest, ingredient-led cooking of the eastern Aegean.
Visitors stopping at Oliva can expect the kind of relaxed, convivial atmosphere that defines dining in this part of Greece. Petra itself is a welcoming destination, known for its distinctive rock rising dramatically from the coastal plain and its unhurried village life, and the restaurant reflects that same easygoing spirit. Whether you are settling in for a leisurely lunch after exploring the village's Byzantine church or winding down after a day on the nearby beaches, Oliva offers a place to slow down and eat well.
The restaurant makes a natural stop for anyone touring the northern part of the island, and its proximity to Petra means it sits within easy reach of some of Lesvos's most rewarding scenery. For travellers seeking an authentic taste of local hospitality and the flavours of the north Aegean — fresh seafood, local olive oil, seasonal vegetables, and the generous portions that Greek taverna culture is known for — Oliva provides exactly that kind of grounding, satisfying experience.
Before you go
What to expect
Dishes at Oliva lean on the north Aegean pantry — fresh catch, locally pressed olive oil, and whatever vegetables the season offers — served at a pace that encourages you to linger. The tables draw a natural mix of Petra villagers and day-trippers, and the olive-grove setting beyond the terrace gives the meal a grounded sense of place you won't find in busier resort towns.
Best time to visit
May through October is the comfortable window; aim for June or September if you want warmth without the midsummer heat and peak crowds.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head northwest through Kalloni and then north toward Petra — the drive typically takes around an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes on island roads.

We ate here on recommendation three times during our recent stay in Petra . The first time it was very busy at around 9pm but we were told of the wait before being seated . It was worth it as the food was lovely and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and hard working . Thanks guys !

This restaurant is fabulous! I had possibly the best lamb dish i have ever eaten. Amazing views over the agenda Sea and was particularly beautiful at sunset. Very reasonably priced food and honestly, incredible. Great wine list and home made pizzas or traditional Greek dishes. If you want to sit on the terrace over the beach i'd suggest booking or eating prior to 7pm. Free use of sunbeds for customers during the day. Highly recommended.....

We had a reservation at Oliva in Petra, Lesvos, and despite arriving right on time, we were kept waiting endlessly by a staff member with a truly unpleasant attitude. With two kids and four adults, we stood around for more than half an hour before being squeezed into a random, noisy spot. Honestly, I can’t tell if this was intentional or if the food really is as disappointing as the service, but Oliva turned out to be a complete regret. The neighboring places are far more attentive and of much better quality. If you’re coming with kids, don’t even think twice—Oliva is definitely not the place for you.

The meals were both beautiful and delicious. The service was friendly and of good quality. The Levrek (Sea Bass) was truly exceptional. The only slight drawback was the restroom, which was situated upstairs and accessible via a rather narrow and somewhat precarious staircase, particularly for those who may have consumed alcohol.

What a fantastic place to visit. Customer service from Panos and Alex - first class. Polite, courteous, friendly and helpful. Quality of food and drinks, again first class. Pizzas are fantastic - recommended by a local. Sunbeds on the beach were good and very comfortable. We visited them most days of our holiday. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you to Panos and Alex. Visited again September 2023, THE best cafe/restaurant in Petra. Service superb. Sunbeds nice and comfy. Drinks and food excellent. All served with a smile and treat you like family Maintains excellent 5 star rating 👌 and definitely recommended. Not to be missed. Panos and Alex, they are the best. Cheers guys. You both work so hard. Visited again September 2024, following a rebrand, the restaurant is still the best for food, service and quality 👌 Excellent and not to be missed.

This is our second time eating at Olivia this week. Both times it’s been very busy and we’ve been relieved manage to get the last two sun beds (both wooden or metal framed are very comfy, you just don’t sit on the end of the end of the metal framed bed because it will tip up in the air like one person on a sea-saw 🤣 ) - Service comes with a smile and genuine Greek friendliness - this and its food and facilities has encouraged us to come back - plus it’s got a nice section of the beach shore to enjoy adjacent to it. - Extensive range of menu food and drinks. (We opted for the ham and cheese toasty (a good price at €3 euros) Plus the hamburger which came beautifully seasoned). The beer is lovely too. The glasses are pre frozen (Just watch they don’t slide off the beach tables like ours did - rookie error!) - They have clean toilets inside for customers - Also an outdoor shower on the beach and boardwalks to get from the beach into the restaurant. Thanks so much Oliva and staff Helen (The travelling restaurant and hotel critique).

We have been here several times in the past, when it was called Lucky Horseshoe. The place has now been refurbished in a very appealing manner, clean and tasteful. The menu has been expanded and you can get many things from traditional home cooking to more exotic dishes. We had, as always, chicken curry served with potatoes and rice. With a roca salad on the side. And as an English friend of us once said: The chicken curry here is as good as it gets. Coming from the land of chicken curry, he should know.

Very good restaurant and bar. We’ve enjoyed the beach on a sunbed and ordered some drinks. We also had lunch a couple of times, and it was always good. Definitely would recommend this place!
