About
Tucked along the rugged northwestern coastline of Lesvos, near the quiet village of Mpalini, Kaki Petra — meaning "Bad Rock" in Greek — is one of those places whose name tells only half the story. The dramatic rocky outcrops that give this stretch of coast its blunt, honest name are also what make it so striking: a landscape shaped by volcanic geology and centuries of wind and sea, where the Aegean meets the land with particular force and character. This corner of Lesvos sees far fewer visitors than the more celebrated beaches to the south and east, lending it an unhurried, local quality that is increasingly rare on the island.
The business here serves as a natural stopping point for those exploring this less-traveled stretch of coast — a place to pause, take in the raw beauty of the surroundings, and enjoy the kind of simple hospitality that defines the best of Greek seaside life. Whether arriving by car along the winding coastal road or on foot from Mpalini, visitors will find a welcome respite from the journey. The views out toward the open sea and the textured shoreline of dark rocks and clear water create a backdrop unlike the sandy bays found elsewhere on the island.
Kaki Petra rewards the curious traveler willing to venture beyond the well-worn tourist trail. It represents the quieter, more elemental side of Lesvos — an island whose greatest pleasures are often found not in the obvious places, but in the small, genuine encounters with its landscape and its people that stay with you long after you leave.
Before you go
What to expect
Dark volcanic rock formations meet clear Aegean water with no sandy buffer — the shoreline is raw and elemental in a way that sandy beaches simply aren't. The crowd here is almost entirely local, the pace is slow, and the wide views out to open sea fill the background of every stop. It's a place for people who want to experience the northern coast on its own terms rather than as a polished tourist destination.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn; July and August are the sunniest but also the hottest, so mornings make the most of the light and cooler air.
How to get there
From Mytilene, take the northern coastal road toward Sigri or Eresos — plan on roughly an hour and a half of driving, with the final stretch winding through the area around Mpalini. A car is essential; this corner of the island has no regular public transport connections.

I am 21 years old and I've been visiting Lesvos island since i was 1. I thought Eressos or Vatera were the most beautiful and clear beaches untill i found myself swimming into these blue and green waters. There are plenty of beach bars over there with great variety of drinks beers and cocktails. The best place for someone who wants to relax with a great view and enjoy the tropical flavours of the coctails. The experience I had was just wholesome.
