My favourite place on planet earth. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's my chill place. Those sunsets....🇬🇷😎👌

About

Petra Beach stretches along the seafront of the charming village of Petra on Lesvos's northwest coast, offering visitors a welcoming blend of natural beauty and relaxed seaside hospitality. The beach sits in the shadow of the village's iconic monolithic rock, topped by the centuries-old Church of the Sweet-Kissing Virgin, which lends the setting an unmistakable sense of place and quiet drama. The shallow, calm waters here are particularly well-suited to families and those who prefer a gentler swim, while the long sandy shoreline invites leisurely strolls as the Aegean light shifts through the day.

As a beach destination with facilities and services for visitors, Petra Beach provides the kind of unhurried comfort that makes a day by the sea in Lesvos so memorable. Sun loungers and umbrellas allow guests to settle in properly, and the proximity to Petra village means tavernas, cafés, and local shops are just a short walk away. The beach draws a relaxed, mixed crowd of Greek families and international travelers who have discovered that Petra offers a more authentic atmosphere than some of the island's busier resort areas.

Petra itself is one of the most appealing villages on Lesvos, and its beach is a natural gathering point for anyone staying in the northwest of the island. Whether you come for a full day of swimming and sunbathing or simply to sit with a coffee and watch the fishing boats, this stretch of coastline captures everything that makes a Greek island beach worthwhile — clear water, honest food nearby, and the unhurried pace that travelers come to Lesvos to find.

Before you go

What to expect

The monolithic rock crowned by its hilltop church looms above the sand, giving the beach a silhouette unlike anywhere else on the island. Shallow, calm water draws families and unhurried swimmers, while sun loungers and umbrellas let you settle in for the full day; the tavernas and cafés of Petra village are a short walk from your towel.

Best time to visit

June through September for swimming, with July and August busier; May and early October offer the same clear water with noticeably fewer people.

How to get there

From Mytilene, take the main road northwest through Kalloni — the drive is roughly 50 to 60 minutes. Petra is well-signed and the beach sits directly on the village seafront.

Petra Beach is almost entirely covered with sand and has a free car park. There is both a public beach area and restaurants that provide sunbeds without charging any fee.

Blue waters, a quiet beach, soothing music in the background, and lounge chairs to relax and unwind after a morning walk. A magical and beautiful place — highly recommended! 🫶

Good beach with a range of eaters beside it, interesting little shady shopping area and the tourist train from here is a good way to have a round trip to Molivos. Lovely church on the rock is worth a visit

Beach is nice. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free. You just need to order some drinks or food from relevznt beach bar. It was very windy during our stay and sea is always blurry because of wawes even though it is very clean. We liked Molyvos better for sea.
