About

Tucked into the southern coast of Lesvos near the charming village of Agios Isidoros, Sappho Plomari takes its name from the island's most celebrated daughter — the lyric poet Sappho, born on Lesvos some 2,600 years ago and still a source of deep pride for the islanders. This stretch of coastline belongs to the greater Plomari area, a town long synonymous with ouzo production and a way of life shaped by the sea, the olive groves, and a relaxed southern temperament that sets it apart from the busier resorts of the north.

Visitors who find their way to Sappho Plomari discover a place that embodies the spirit of the region — unhurried, genuine, and steeped in local character. Whether you are stopping in for a cool drink after a morning at the nearby beach, sampling the area's famous ouzo alongside traditional mezedes, or simply settling in to watch the afternoon light play across the Aegean, the experience feels distinctly Lesbian in the truest sense: rooted in hospitality, conversation, and the simple pleasures of a Mediterranean afternoon.

The location near Agios Isidoros puts it within easy reach of one of the quieter, more authentic corners of Lesvos's southern shore, away from the well-worn tourist trail. For travelers looking to experience Plomari's relaxed coastal energy rather than just passing through, a stop at Sappho offers a natural anchor point — a place to sit, linger, and let the island reveal itself at its own pace.

Before you go

What to expect

Sappho Plomari draws you into the easy, unforced sociability of the southern coast — locals and off-the-beaten-track travelers share tables over cold ouzo and small plates of mezedes while the Aegean shimmers in the background. It is the kind of place where an intended half-hour stop quietly becomes two hours without anyone minding.

Best time to visit

Late May through September is the sweet spot; June and September offer warm, unhurried days before or after the July–August peak.

How to get there

From Mytilene, take the road south toward Plomari — the drive winds through olive groves and takes roughly 40–50 minutes. Agios Isidoros sits just east of Plomari town, right on the southern shoreline.

The hotel is nice, daily cleaning is provided, towels are replaced regularly, and the staff is very attentive and helpful at all times. However, there is a bar just two buildings away from the hotel where the entertainment continues until 5 am, which can be disturbing due to the noise.

We stayed here in Plomari for 2 nights. The rooms are quite large and practical. The balcony offers a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea. The kitchen has everything you might need and is sufficient. They had prepared fruit in the fridge before we arrived. The lady running the place is very kind. I will definitely come again next year.
