Supermarket - Mini Market
Visitors say
A small, friendly supermarket with a wide selection. The man behind the counter is very friendly.
Handy little supermarket if you are staying up the top end of Petra, friendly owners with lots of choice and very reasonably priced. Could do with some beers(cans) in the fridge ;)
About
Tucked within easy reach of Petra, this neighbourhood supermarket and mini market serves as a practical anchor for visitors exploring the northwestern coast of Lesvos. Stocked with everyday essentials, fresh local produce, cold drinks, and pantry staples, it is the kind of stop that makes self-catering holidays run smoothly — whether you are renting a villa nearby, preparing a beach picnic, or simply restocking after a long day on the road.
Beyond the basics, small markets like this one often carry a selection of regional products that larger supermarkets overlook: locally pressed olive oil from the island's celebrated groves, Lesvos-made ouzo, dried herbs, and seasonal fruit from surrounding farms. The staff tend to have a genuine familiarity with the area, making them an unexpectedly useful source of local knowledge — which beach is quietest today, where the best souvlaki can be found, or whether the road to a particular viewpoint is passable. For visitors staying in Petra or passing through on a tour of the island's western villages, this kind of neighbourhood market is less an errand and more a small window into the rhythms of everyday Lesbian life.
Before you go
What to expect
Step inside and the cool air and orderly shelves are an immediate relief after a morning on Lesvos roads. Alongside the usual staples you will find bottles of locally pressed olive oil, Lesvos ouzo, and whatever fruit is in season from nearby farms — the kind of things that turn a self-catering stay into something genuinely local. The staff tend to know the area well enough to answer the questions a map cannot.
Best time to visit
Open year-round; the shop is busiest in July and August when Petra fills with summer visitors, so early morning is the calmest time to stop.
How to get there
Petra is roughly 45 minutes to an hour's drive northwest of Mytilene, following the main road through Kalloni and then north toward the coast — the market sits within the village itself.

Small mini-market with almost everything you need for a vacation. Prices are higher, but that's the case with all supermarkets in Petra. The only market in this area, as the other larger market is currently undergoing a change of ownership. Unfortunately, fruit and vegetables are not recommended—but that's a general problem on the island, at least in Petra. The owner is very nice and helpful.

There was no possibility to do shopping when there were more people at home, we also noticed that we were charged too much

It's a small grocery store that opens around 7:30 a.m., but it stocks frozen food, pots and pans, and even plastic kitchen and household items. There's a wide selection of pet products and drinks. There's also a limited selection of fruits and vegetables. There's also sunscreen, etc., and it's open late into the night.

A wonderful little supermarket where you can find everything. It's a bit of a struggle to navigate the narrow aisles, but it's my favorite supermarket.
Make a day of it
