Taxi Station Plomari Lesvos Greece

The prices were not too exorbitant, you just take the taxi driver's card and call him to tell you where you want to go.
About
Plomari's taxi station serves as a quiet but essential hub for travelers exploring this charming coastal town on the southern shore of Lesvos. Known as the ouzo capital of Greece — home to the celebrated Varvayiannis distillery — Plomari draws visitors who often arrive without a car and find themselves wanting to venture beyond the town itself, whether to the pebbly beaches of Agios Isidoros, the mountain villages of the interior, or the winding roads back toward Mytilene. The local taxi drivers here are typically lifelong residents with deep knowledge of the island's back roads, seasonal conditions, and the kind of quiet spots that don't appear on tourist maps.
For independent travelers, the taxi station in Plomari is more than a transport point — it is a practical gateway to Lesvos's southern landscapes. Hiring a taxi for a half-day excursion is a common and affordable way to reach the olive groves and Byzantine monasteries scattered across the surrounding hills, or to connect onward to ferry terminals and the capital without the stress of navigating unfamiliar mountain roads. The drivers tend to speak at least basic English and are accustomed to helping visitors piece together flexible itineraries on the spot.
Whether you need a straightforward transfer from Mytilene Airport or want a knowledgeable local to show you the quieter side of southern Lesvos, stopping at the Plomari taxi station is a sensible first move. It embodies the unhurried, human-scale character of the town itself — a place where travel still feels personal rather than transactional, and where a conversation with your driver might lead you somewhere far more memorable than any guidebook recommendation.
Before you go
What to expect
Stepping up to the Plomari taxi station puts you in contact with a layer of island knowledge that no navigation app can replicate. The drivers are typically lifelong locals who know which mountain track turns to mud after rain, which hillside monastery is worth the detour, and how to read the southern coastline's quieter moods. It is a small, unhurried operation — the kind where your question about the best beach might spark a 20-minute conversation and a completely revised afternoon.
Best time to visit
The station is useful year-round, but spring through early autumn is when the southern coast truly comes alive; expect higher demand on peak July and August days, so it is worth arranging your ride a little in advance.
How to get there
From Mytilene, Plomari is roughly 35 to 45 minutes by car along the mountain road that descends through olive groves toward the southern shore. The taxi station sits in the center of town and is easy to locate on foot.

There is no worse system, there are 5-6 places for the gray taxis of Plomari and a landline phone rings and whoever is first in line answers it and responds to the race. I had a lot of trouble with a taxi driver named Chr. Moutz
