Agia Fotini is a Greek Orthodox church on Lesvos dedicated to Saint Photini, the Samaritan woman whom tradition honors as the first person to whom Christ revealed himself as the Messiah at Jacob's Well, as recounted in the Gospel of John. Venerated in Orthodoxy as "Equal to the Apostles" and "Great Martyr," Saint Photini is believed to have gone on to preach the Christian faith and ultimately to have been martyred, likely in Rome under Nero. Her memory is celebrated on March 20 each year, and her name day draws the faithful for liturgy, incense, and the quiet communal warmth that defines feast-day worship in the Greek countryside.
