Toulipa
Visitors say
Excellent. For the last 2.5 years, I have been ordering all the cakes I want from there. The desserts are fantastic, especially the red velvet, and at very good prices.
Very beautiful and clean flavors. Try everything but like the locals the baklava (fragrant butter & as much syrup). The service is excellent!
About
Tucked into the quiet countryside near the village of Ippeio, Toulipa is one of those unhurried stops that reminds you why the slower roads of Lesvos are always worth taking. The surrounding landscape here is quintessentially Lesbian — rolling hills dotted with ancient olive groves, the air carrying the faint scent of wild herbs, and a pace of life that feels refreshingly removed from the bustle of the coast. A visit to a local establishment in this part of the island is as much about absorbing the atmosphere as it is about what is on offer.
Ippeio sits in the fertile interior of Lesvos, a part of the island shaped by generations of agricultural tradition and a deep connection to the land. Businesses that take root in villages like this tend to reflect that character — grounded, authentic, and often run by families who have called the area home for decades. Whether Toulipa serves as a café, a small shop, or a local gathering spot, it likely draws on the honest produce and warm hospitality that define rural Lesbian culture, from the celebrated local olive oil and ouzo to the cheeses and preserves that rarely make it off the island.
For visitors exploring beyond the well-trodden path to Molyvos or Mytilene, a stop at Toulipa offers a genuine glimpse into everyday life in the Lesbian countryside. The northern interior of the island is often overlooked, yet it rewards the curious traveller with an intimacy that the popular coastal destinations can no longer quite provide. Coming here is a chance to sit, slow down, and connect with a corner of Lesvos that still belongs to its people.
Before you go
What to expect
Toulipa occupies a quiet corner of Lesvos's eastern interior, where olive groves run up to the edge of the village and the pace of Ippeio sets the tempo. It's the kind of stop where you settle in without rushing — conversations drift unhurriedly and the agricultural landscape outside feels like part of what you came for. Come expecting something modest, genuine, and rooted in the daily life of a working rural community.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early October is most pleasant; mid-summer afternoons inland run noticeably hotter than the coast, so mornings or early evenings are preferable.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head inland toward the eastern hill villages — Ippeio is roughly a 25-minute drive, winding through olive country and small farming settlements.

It is the ultimate pastry shop on the island. Whatever our event was —wedding, baptism, birthday— it was always our first and only choice. Their sweets are fresh, delicious, full of flavor and love. Anyone who visits Ippeios and doesn't try a sweet from there will be considered... a sacrilege!

An excellent pastry shop! Everything is fresh, high quality and with flavors reminiscent of the old, authentic pastry. They stand out for their traditional sweets, made with love and good ingredients. The service was impeccable and the place was warm and clean.

The best sweets on the island with a variety. The prices are also excellent. Every time the sweets are fresh and if something is not of the day they don't give it to us. That says a lot... We have tried cakes, cornets, apple pies, ekmek and profiteroles.

It is the best pastry shop ever ever ever. It has one big disadvantage, IT IS INSIDE OUR FEET, HOW MANY KILOS WILL WE LOSE?;;;;; PS. I will never, ever forget when every summer we went as children for ice cream + but also to get my birthday cake that my grandmother had ordered) that smell of fresh dessert and fresh raw materials. Forever etched in my mind.
