Faneromeni
Visitors say
One of the most beautiful beaches on the island! Of course, it often has waves, but you are compensated by its wild beauty!
The beach is very beautiful. There's also a bar that serves super delicious dishes.
About this Beach
Faneromeni sits on the exposed western coast near Sigri, where the open Aegean meets the volcanic landscape that characterises this end of the island. The larger of the two Faneromeni beaches is windswept and often has rough surf — dramatic and beautiful, but not always suitable for swimming. A small cafe provides refreshments. The smaller beach, divided by a shallow river, creates natural tidal pools that are ideal for families with young children and those who prefer calm, shallow water. Both beaches benefit from their proximity to Sigri village, which offers excellent tavernas specialising in fresh fish. The Faneromeni area is among the least developed coastlines on Lesvos, with a raw, elemental quality that rewards visitors who appreciate nature unmanicured.
Before you go
What to expect
The two Faneromeni beaches each offer something distinct — the larger faces the open Aegean with waves breaking over a volcanic shoreline, dramatic enough to watch even when swimming is risky, while the smaller, split by a shallow river, forms quiet natural pools that are perfect for paddling and exploring with children. After the beach, Sigri village is a short drive away with waterfront fish tavernas that have been feeding local fishermen for generations. There is no development in sight here — just wild coast, volcanic rock, and the smell of the sea.
Best time to visit
Late May through September for swimming; the larger beach can be rough on summer northerly wind days, making the sheltered smaller beach the better choice when conditions are choppy.
How to get there
From Mytilene, drive west across the island through Kalloni and continue toward the western tip to Sigri — the journey takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the route and stops.

A beautiful beach with tamarisk trees, not crowded, with one crappy cafe that has a nice name and from which we expected more. It's a shame there isn't a tavern on the beach.

Wonderful quiet small pebble long beach with clear waters and beautiful sunsets. Only problem is it is rarely totally calm due to its position. Surely one in my top three on the island. A very unique old bar completes the far end of the road experience (no fancy mainstream beach bar for those who are looking for something like that).
