Tarti Beach
About this Beach
Tarti is a popular beach on the southeastern coast of Lesvos, equipped with tavernas, basic accommodation, and water sports in summer. The sand is fine, the water is warm and clear, and the location catches reliable afternoon sun. It can get busy in July and August, particularly with Greek families from Mytilini, but the relaxed atmosphere and good food at the waterfront tavernas keep people coming back year after year. Less-crowded alternatives lie to either side along the coast, rewarding a short walk with more space and quieter swimming.
Before you go
What to expect
Tarti faces southeast and catches afternoon sun well into the evening, with fine sand underfoot and calm, clear water that warms up quickly by midsummer. Waterfront tavernas serve fresh fish while families and younger visitors rent pedal boats and paddleboards along the shore. If the main stretch feels crowded, a short walk in either direction along the coast turns up quieter swimming spots.
Best time to visit
Late June through September is ideal for swimming; July and August are the busiest months, with many Greek families making the short trip from Mytilini.
How to get there
From Mytilene, follow the coastal road southeast toward the village of Tarti — the drive takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes depending on the route you take.
