About
Perched at the edge of the Aegean where the village of Tarti meets the sea, Tarti Beach Taverna is one of those unhurried places that defines the rhythm of a Greek island summer. Like the best of Lesvos's coastal eateries, it occupies the sweet spot between simplicity and satisfaction — a place where you can pull up a chair steps from the water, order a carafe of local wine, and let the afternoon dissolve entirely. The menu leans on the sea and the season: freshly caught fish, grilled octopus, and the kind of mezedes that reward slow eating and good company.
What makes a stop here worthwhile goes beyond the food. The northeastern coast of Lesvos is quieter and less trafficked than the resort strips found elsewhere in the Aegean, and Tarti itself retains a genuinely local character. Dining at the taverna puts you inside that world rather than alongside it — surrounded by fishing boats, the smell of salt air, and views across toward the Turkish coast that remind you just how far into the eastern Mediterranean you have traveled. It is the sort of meal that lingers in memory long after the plate is cleared.
Before you go
What to expect
Tables are set right at the waterline, close enough to hear the Aegean lapping against the fishing boats moored alongside. The kitchen works with what the sea offers that day — grilled fish, octopus, mezedes made for slow sharing — and the pace is unhurried, with views stretching east toward the Turkish coastline.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn is ideal; July and August draw more visitors, so arrive early if you want a table at the water's edge.
How to get there
From Mytilene, follow the northeastern coastal road toward Tarti — the drive takes roughly 20-25 minutes and brings you directly into the village at the sea.

Fresh octopus and squid. Salads taste like salads and not cardboard. Also the portions are proper portions, not just a few bites to nibble on. It's right next to the sea, which allows you to grab a bite after going for a swim. I will definitely be coming back.

If you want to feel the true spirit of the Aegean, this is the place to be! The natural charm of the venue, the attentive service, and the exquisite Greek cuisine made for an unforgettable day. The beach area is exceptionally clean and peaceful, while the restaurant offers a truly gastronomic delight. Highly recommended!

This tavern has great prices and amazing views. Beautiful beach is just 2 meters away from your table. For a beer, big bottle of water and two sets of food (meat + fish) we paid only 30€ which seems like nothing compared to the amount of fantastic food we received.

Loved this Greek taverna! We came to Tarti Beach four different times and every time ate at this hidden gem. The service was always a bit slow but that is because they were always crazy busy, every table was packed full of people. Everything we ordered was fantastic, minus the fries. The fries were always a bit disappointing but we didn't go there for them so it didn't matter. I loved the cheese pie, cooked greens, beans and fried zucchini flowers ad well as the Greek salad. Great prices and fantastic food!

Classical beach taverna with reasonable prices and good food options. Christal clear cold water. We liked the natural beach, very calm. Make sure to go early since you may not find available sun-beds.
