Thanks to Maria and her husband, we had a wonderful holiday. They were friendly and very helpful. A quiet and peaceful apartment near the sea. Safe for children. We'll be back this year. We're waiting for them to open their reservations. 🥰

We stayed as a family. The rooms were spotless. Even though we were scheduled to check out the next morning, the room was cleaned while we were away. Quiet and peaceful. Very close to the beach and nearby businesses. We were very pleased. The only downside is the internet speed.

About

Argo Apartments offers comfortable self-catering accommodation in one of Lesvos's most enviable seaside settings, positioned near the village of Vatera on the island's southern coast. Vatera is home to one of the longest sandy beaches in the Aegean, stretching for several kilometres of fine golden sand lapped by calm, clear waters — making it a perennial favourite for visitors seeking a relaxed, unhurried escape from the busier tourist circuits. Staying at Argo puts guests within easy reach of this remarkable stretch of coastline, with the gentle pace of village life unfolding just outside the door.

The apartments are well suited to independent travellers, couples, and families who prefer the flexibility of their own space over a traditional hotel stay. A self-contained setup allows guests to keep their own hours, shop at the local markets for fresh produce, and truly settle into the rhythms of a Greek island summer. The surrounding area offers simple tavernas serving freshly caught fish, opportunities for snorkelling and swimming, and quiet roads ideal for exploring the olive groves and thermal springs that characterise this part of Lesvos.

For those who want to venture further afield, Vatera serves as a tranquil base from which to discover the broader island — the medieval capital of Mytilene, the petrified forest of Sigri, and the therapeutic waters of Polichnitos are all within reasonable driving distance. Argo Apartments represents a straightforward, honest choice for visitors who want proximity to the sea, the freedom of self-catering, and the pleasure of spending their days on one of the Aegean's finest beaches.

Before you go

What to expect

Mornings at Argo tend to start slowly — coffee on a balcony, then a short walk to the water's edge of Vatera's vast sandy shore. The apartment format means you set your own pace: stock the kitchen from the village, cook when you feel like it, and spend the rest of your time between the sea and the shade. The surrounding area is genuinely quiet, the kind of place where the main decision each day is which end of the beach to walk to.

Best time to visit

Late May through September is the swim season; July and August bring peak warmth but Vatera's long beach rarely feels overcrowded.

How to get there

From Mytilene, head south-west toward Polichnitos — the drive takes around 45 to 55 minutes depending on your route through the island's interior. Vatera sits at the end of the road on the southern coast, so a car is strongly recommended.

We had a bad experience in the Argo apartments due to the aggressive behaviour of the lady owing the apartments. I fully understand that we didn't comply with the initial booking that we had done (8 days and prepared 3 of them for 150 euros). We were travelling with a small baby and had to change our plans, my parents were also planning to book a room so we don't cause a big inconvenience to the lady. She was aggressive from the first moment she saw me because I had called one week ago to inform about the change of the booking. When I told hem that I just had my driving licence with my and my husband his ID she started to shout told me that we should leave and that she will keep the 150 euros. She immediately run up to the room to throw away my husband with the small baby. We said that in order to leave we wanted the 150 Euros back but she refused. She called the police because we stayed in the room and we also called the police because the lady acted really aggressive. Her daughter is more reasonable and finally with the presence of the police with negotiated a solution. The lady should try to behave normal and talk instead of shouting in order to reach in agreement alone with the clients and not with the presence of police. Other than that the rooms are okie and clean but the kitchen is very bad equipped ( one pot of previous decade and a one knife that doesn't cut), no salt or sugar available. Doesn't provide more enough toilet paper and no soap for showering. These small details have minor cost and provide hospitality but the lady is probably not interested to provide a nice stay...

Owner Response

Initially, you booked the room a month and a half before your arrival for 8 days, and paid a deposit for 3 days. When you arrived, you stated that you would only stay the 3 days of the deposit, breaking our agreement without prior notice (and without ever mentioning your parents).
Then, you refused to provide your information, which according to the law you were obliged to do, saying that you do not have an ID or passport. When you were informed that it is impossible to stay at the accommodation without an identification certificate, you began to threaten us and became particularly aggressive towards us, also committing other criminal acts. Therefore, we were forced to call the police, in order to protect our physical integrity.
During the days of your short stay, you misused the room, destroying various kitchen utensils and leaving it particularly dirty.
Finally, our hospitality and services are evident to everyone interested.

disappointment and anger that I was left with my stay. 7 days of a closed room, she only came in once, changed the sheets (2 of them with yellow prints) and left towels. No sweeping or mopping. So when I went and told her my complaints, she got angry and told me why I didn't leave (with a 1 year old baby) and that I could have wiped myself. And the answer about the sheets was that sunscreen doesn't come off with washing. Too bad, too bad, because these kinds of business people are interested in filling the rooms without caring that you're happy and coming back next year.

Owner Response

Thank you for your review and we are sorry for the feelings you felt during your stay. However, according to the property's policy, cleaning is done every three days. On the days it was done, the room was swept and mopped properly, even though you had arbitrarily modified the arrangement of the beds, and you were using the white towels as mats, making all cleaning processes particularly difficult.
During your stay, you did not express any complaints, except when you were leaving, you expressed your anger in a very rude way.

Building and furniture's quality is very low. If something happened, they charge you alot. Electric stove cannot boil water. When you ask kettle, they dont understand what you want. WiFi is very low and unstable.

Owner Response

Thank you for your review and we are sorry for the feelings you had during your stay. The quality of the building and its furnishings is excellent, however, the misuse you made of the room caused damage and destroyed the kitchen furniture, as a result of which it was immediately replaced for the next guests. We are surprised that in retrospect you consider the damage insignificant, while at the time you agreed that it did indeed need to be replaced.

The location of the rooms was wonderful and in front of the sea! The environment, the nature around the rooms all spotlessly clean. The spaces bright and spacious! The people hospitable and kind. I would choose the same rooms again on my next trip

Nice. The downside is that there are no screens on the windows and flies and mosquitoes get in.
