It was a lovely evening with incredible food and view. There was only one women who was preparing for the food and the service was only one man. Still we shouldn’t be waited too long for the order.

Year later and back on Lesvos. We could not miss The Red Beach in Tsonia and that nice restaurant. And again, very good food and stunning views. We spent pretty nice day here. Highly recommendet :-)

About

Tucked along the coastline near the quiet village of Tsonia in northwestern Lesvos, Blue Sea Taverna is the kind of unpretentious seaside eatery that defines the authentic Greek dining experience. With the Aegean stretching out before it, the taverna offers a setting that is as much a draw as the food itself — sun-bleached tables, the sound of gentle waves, and the unhurried pace of a village that has not yet been overtaken by mass tourism. This corner of Lesvos remains largely off the beaten path, making a meal here feel like a genuine discovery rather than a tourist itinerary checkbox.

Visitors can expect the honest, straightforward cooking that characterises traditional Greek tavernas: freshly caught fish grilled simply with olive oil and lemon, mezedes assembled from local ingredients, and the kind of hospitality that makes lingering over a carafe of house wine feel entirely natural. The northwestern coast of Lesvos is known for its dramatic landscapes and the rich biodiversity of the surrounding olive groves and coastline, and the taverna sits comfortably within that character — informal, generous, and rooted in place.

For travellers exploring the less-visited villages of Lesvos beyond the more familiar destinations of Molyvos or Petra, Blue Sea Taverna offers a welcome pause. It is the sort of spot where a quick lunch can easily stretch into an afternoon, with the shimmer of the sea and the warmth of genuine Greek welcome making it hard to leave.

Before you go

What to expect

Sun-bleached tables sit steps from the water at Blue Sea Taverna, with the Aegean filling the view and setting the pace for everything that follows. Grilled fish arrives simply dressed with olive oil and lemon, mezedes come at an unhurried tempo, and a carafe of house wine makes it easy to lose track of time. This stretch of northwestern Lesvos sees few visitors, which gives even an ordinary weekday lunch a quality of quiet discovery.

Best time to visit

Late May through September for outdoor waterside dining; August is warm but Tsonia stays far quieter than busier parts of the island.

How to get there

Blue Sea Taverna is roughly a 40–50 minute drive from Mytilene, heading northwest through the island's interior toward the coast at Tsonia.

Quite overrated place, doesn't really deserve 4+ ratings. Food is mediocre, you can find same stuff / quality at almost anywhere in the island. Hygiene is way below average, just take a look at the kitchen and toilets. Right by the beach which is it's best aspect.

Blue Sea Taverna on Tsonia’s red-sand beach dishes food straight from a Greek grandmother’s soul: creamy white beans that redefine comfort, head-on garlic prawns, and charcoal-kissed calamari that melts like butter. The family greets you barefoot, slides over frosty bottles of local beer, and lets the sea air season every bite. Best meal I’ve had anywhere in Greece—worth the ferry detour, extra fuel, and every breadcrumb. Go hungry, stay barefoot, leave spoiled for life!

Really great food here, with a nice view of the sea. We sometimes struggle to find vegetarian food but there is plenty of choice here and everything we had was delicious! The τυροκαφτερι was especially good, as well as the courgette flowers with rice. Highly recommend this place.

Delicious proposals of local and international couzine. Very polite, young waiters and very, very reasonable (low I would say) prices. All these next to the sea under thick shade of trees

This was one of our favourite meals on the island. The food is amazing and fresh. The oil cheese is a local specialty and would recommend. The service was attentive and staff kind and friendly. The area is beautiful and right on the water.

Fresh and really delicious food, good service, friendly atmosphere. We tried grilled sardines, fried calamari and house wine, all of them are superb! Maybe the best tavern in Lesvos. The price are cheaper.
