Gera's Olive Grove
Visitors say
Lovely hosts in a quiet environment. A very good base to explore Lesvos and around.
We really love this resort. My family (2 children and my husband) and my mother and dad stayed there and had the opportunity to see 1 double room and family house, both have a kitchen part and full with necessities (kettle, filter coffee maker, cooker, glasses, dishes, etc). Thanks for everthing..
About
Lesvos is home to an estimated eleven million olive trees, and the rolling landscape surrounding the Gulf of Gera is among the most emblematic expressions of this ancient agricultural tradition. Gera's Olive Grove, situated near the quiet settlement of Marmaro on the sheltered inner shores of this broad, mirror-calm bay, invites visitors into a living landscape that has shaped the island's identity, economy, and cuisine for millennia. The olive trees of this region are famously gnarled and ancient, their silvery canopies casting dappled shade over ground that generations of farming families have tended with the same patient rhythms passed down through centuries.
A visit here offers something increasingly rare in modern travel: direct contact with the source of one of the Mediterranean's most celebrated products. Guests can typically explore the grove itself, learning about the cultivation and harvesting process that culminates each autumn when the island comes alive with the olive-picking season. The extra virgin olive oil produced in this corner of Lesvos carries the distinctive character of the local terroir, with a robust, peppery finish that reflects both the volcanic soil and the sea air drifting in from the gulf. Sampling and purchasing oil pressed from trees on the property connects visitors to a product with genuine provenance rather than a supermarket abstraction.
The setting alone justifies the detour. The Gulf of Gera stretches out beyond the grove in a wide, tranquil arc, its waters rarely disturbed by the open-sea winds that animate Lesvos's northern coasts. Marmaro and the surrounding villages preserve an unhurried, working character that feels distinct from busier tourist destinations on the island. For travelers seeking to understand Lesvos beyond its beaches and postcard views, an afternoon among these ancient trees, with the scent of warm earth and olive leaves in the air, offers one of the most authentic encounters the island has to give.
Before you go
What to expect
Ancient, gnarled olive trees with silvery canopies stretch across a hillside overlooking the mirror-calm Gulf of Gera, creating a landscape that feels genuinely agricultural rather than staged. You can walk the grove, learn about cultivation and the autumn harvest cycle, and taste the estate's extra-virgin oil — robust and peppery from the volcanic soil and sea air drifting in from the bay. The surrounding village of Marmaro keeps a quiet, working character that sets it apart from busier corners of the island.
Best time to visit
Autumn is the most atmospheric season, when the olive harvest brings the grove to life; spring is equally rewarding before the summer heat peaks.
How to get there
Marmaro sits on the sheltered inner shore of the Gulf of Gera, roughly 15–20 minutes by car from Mytilene following the road around the bay.

You can feel the mystic natural beauty and peaceful silence of Geras Bay at this special place. There is a small beach, perfect for a short swim and relaxing under the shade of olive trees. The room was very clean and equipped with everything you might need for a short stay. I highly recommend the breakfast — it featured high-quality traditional specialties, including freshly baked pies, a special omelet, and homemade jams. Special thanks to the lovely lady who prepared and served this breakfast, treating us with true Greek hospitality. We really felt at home 💛

Life in a big mansion, lots of trees, green, cats and dogs. Big parking space. A beautiful environment away from Mytilene city right on the beach. Rooms taken care of, beautiful balcony. The fridge could run with more power and the power of water in the shower also. Mrs Sofia very welcoming and helpful.

If you want to avoid mass tourism, this is the place to go. Quiet but great. Breakfast is simple, but there's more than enough food. Room was clean and spacious. Staff are really friendly and warm. Able to answer all questions and give good recommendations. Our room had a stove & fridge. There are at least 5-6 restaurants within a 10-15 min drive from the hotel. Even a really good one within walking distance.

We stayed in the stone cottages. Very rustic both the setting and the cottages. You are practically in the olive farm. The room is cute but some of the items were dusty.

One of the best places to stay in lesvos. Quiet, green, good breakfast and friendly staff. There are two houses and some studios. With a little beach at the doorstep for swimming in Gera's bay. It's really a gem. For those who seek peace and quiet in combination with local produce in a eco-friendly environment.

A MAGIC PLACE! It's one of these holiday resorts where one can leave everything behind, dig into their soul and stay there. The apartments are so well made, the attention to detail is amazing, the owner Alex is wonderful and it feels so authentic and Greek. A must if one seeks something much more than a sea and sun holiday. Don't go without buying their own local olive oil!!!
