Visitors say
The rooms are fantastic, some have an exquisite beach view. I love the food and the service was good. It is located on the water close to many beach bars you can visit. I loved visiting.
I really like it here! 7 nights vacation. You can rent a bike for a whole day! Never saw that anywhere else!! Plenty of fresh food. There are some books in different languages you can read. 4/5*
About
Nestled in the peaceful village of Vatera on the southern coast of Lesvos, Hotel Irini takes its name from the Greek word for peace — and few settings could be more deserving of that name. Vatera is home to one of the longest and least crowded sandy beaches in the entire Aegean, stretching for several kilometres of golden shore lapped by calm, shallow waters. A hotel positioned here puts guests within easy reach of that unhurried coastline, where the pace of life slows to match the gentle rhythm of the sea.
Hotel Irini offers visitors a comfortable base from which to explore not only the beach itself but the wider landscapes of southern Lesvos — olive groves, rolling hills, and the thermal springs at nearby Polichnitos, which have drawn travellers seeking relaxation for generations. Staying here means waking up in a quiet corner of the island far from the busier tourist circuits, with local tavernas serving freshly caught fish and the region's celebrated ouzo within a short walk.
For those who come to Lesvos seeking authentic island life rather than resort crowds, a stay at Hotel Irini represents exactly that kind of honest, unhurried hospitality that the island is known for. Vatera's relative seclusion has helped it retain a genuinely local character, and a family-run hotel like Irini sits at the heart of that experience — welcoming guests into a place where the emphasis is on rest, natural beauty, and the simple pleasures of the southern Aegean.
Before you go
What to expect
Vatera's beach — one of the longest stretches of sand in the Aegean — is a short walk from the front door, and you can almost always find an uncrowded spot even in summer. Mornings carry the scent of salt air and nearby olive groves; evenings are best spent at a waterfront taverna with fresh-caught fish and the region's ouzo. The family-run atmosphere means a quieter, more personal stay than anything you'd find at a resort hotel.
Best time to visit
Late May through September for swimming; late June and early September strike the best balance between warm water and manageable crowds.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head south through Polichnitos — about 50 km by road, roughly an hour's drive. A rental car is strongly recommended as bus connections to Vatera are limited.

If you are looking for a quiet out of the way place to spend your vacation this might be the place. But if you need nightlife this definitely is not the place for you. The nearest village is about 3 miles away and in the other direction the road ends. But, the beach is right across the road and it is wide and long.

Hidden Gem! Amazing hotel with very friendly and kind staff. And exceptionally high standards of cleanliness. Food was always very fresh and not lacking in variety. The beverages were great, especially the ice cold beer (in refrigerated glasses). The beach is very close to the hotel (you just cross the road and tadaa you're there!). The sea is always crystal clear with little to no waves and the swimming pool is very nice too. The main negatives would be: - bathrooms needing renovation - you hear everything that happens in the hallway even through closed doors I wish I could have stayed longer!!! I regrent I didn't get to say goodbye properly to the staff.

If you want chill and relax, this is the place. Beach got beds and parasols. The pool is big enough to take a swim. Buffet breakfast okay, but the lunch and dinner much better! You should definitely take the souvlaki!

If you really want to rest and relax this is the place. You can find more modern rooms elsewhere. But you cannot find the people and their will to host you and make you feel at home. The hospitality of everyone involved is unmatched. From the owner to every single employee.

Nice setting with great beach in front. Unfortunately all kitchen odors fill most of the garden-looking rooms. Also, constant noise from air conditioning units make your summer quiet sleep almost impossible. Covid safety protocols are not followed by the administration but only by some of the personnel. Friendly staff. Cleanliness is in acceptable levels and restaurant food is tasty and well cooked.

A well maintained hotel with lovely terrace, bar and swimming pool. Free bicycles to use and the beach is just across the road. It does not have a disco area and loud music. Mainly a quiet hotel where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful beach.

A decent hotel with a pool and access to a beach with parasols on a mostly stone beach. The pool has a shallow kids section: 0.7m. Staff were friendly enough, but won't go too far out their way. The food is good and can be eaten on a nice terrace overlooking the pool and the sea. It is a decent way from the main part of the village, so you will have to drive if looking for alternative places to eat. If you can try the taverna on the far opposite side of Vetera and try the taverna way past that one too (Ag. Fokas).
