About
Nestled near the sun-drenched shores of Vatera on Lesvos's southern coast, the Omiros Hotel offers a welcoming base for travellers seeking to explore one of the Aegean's most rewarding corners. Vatera itself is home to one of the longest sandy beaches in the eastern Aegean, a sweeping stretch of golden shoreline backed by gentle hills and the scent of wild thyme, making it a destination that rewards those who venture beyond the island's better-known resorts.
Staying at the Omiros puts guests within easy reach of both the beach and the quieter rhythms of local village life. Whether you are arriving after a long journey from Mytilene or making your way around the island's southern shore, the hotel provides comfortable accommodation with the kind of unhurried hospitality that characterises this part of Lesvos. The surrounding area is also rich in natural interest, sitting not far from the celebrated Lesvos fossil forest at Sigri and the wetlands that draw birdwatchers from across Europe each spring.
For visitors who want to experience Lesvos at a slower pace — swimming in clear Aegean waters, dining on fresh seafood at tavernas a short walk away, and watching the sun dip behind the Aegean horizon — the Omiros Hotel serves as a practical and pleasant home base. It represents the kind of uncomplicated, genuine hospitality that has long made the villages of southern Lesvos quietly beloved among those who discover them.
Before you go
What to expect
The Omiros sits close enough to Vatera's long sandy beach that you can hear the Aegean from the property, with the unhurried pace of a southern village setting the tone. Guests tend to spend mornings on the water and evenings at the seafront tavernas, with no particular pressure to be anywhere else. The surrounding hills smell of wild thyme, and the light here in the late afternoon is the kind that makes you stay an extra night.
Best time to visit
May through October for swimming; July and August are hot and busier, while June and September offer warm seas with more breathing room.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head south and west toward Vatera — the drive takes roughly 45–55 minutes depending on the route through the hills. The hotel is in the village itself, close to the beach road.

Unacceptable. I don't know where to start. The room was filthy, full of insects and cobwebs in the corners. The owner was extremely rude and indiscreet to the point of disgust. She barged into the room with "I want it that way" without asking, without knocking on the door and with her own key. Dust everywhere in the room and sheets with holes. One fan for two people and no air conditioning... the balcony doors faced east, resulting in the room being an oven every morning and we waking up sweating from the heat. When we mentioned all this to the owner, she was extremely rude and insulting. ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE… DON’T CHOOSE THIS

The rooms are ancient, filled with mosquitoes with a weird stench. The backdoor DOES NOT LOCK which is insane, considering also that someone tried TO BREAK IN. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COST

Whatever one says is a bit much. Mrs. Eleni may be kind and caring, but that's where all the good things about this place end. Rooms are very old, in the stench, with bed linens with holes and in the dust. The bathroom is unacceptable with walls full of salts and all the furniture either broken or yellowed from the many years that have to be changed. Due to booking many rooms, there were experiences of other people with ants in the room making a parade or handles from the taps that were left in the hand. The filters in the air conditioners must not have been cleaned since they were new, with the air quality being the worst possible. In general, it is a hotel that has no reason to still be operating. I don't know if it has known greater glories in the distant past, but now it is a very bad place that unless someone with a lot of appetite and money is found to invest and upgrade it to a huge extent, it is not even worth passing by. I regret writing such a review, but the whole experience is to be avoided without a second thought.

By far the worst place to stay. I just wanted to burn the place down. It's not just bad. It's unhealthy. Air conditioning unit was not serviced, the toilet wasn't clean, the carpets was rotting. I never ever felt so disgusted. They didn't even bother to put a new toilet paper. It was half and dirty. PS. We booked 4 rooms. I am still trying to figure out which one was the worst.

The hotel was unacceptable for sleeping conditions. You wouldn't stay there even for a day. Very dirty. Very old and had no shutters so the sun came in in the morning and at noon..

The hotel is old. The room we were supposed to stay in was very dirty. It also had no shutters or screens, resulting in it being very bright in the morning and afternoon (unsuitable for sleeping). The reservation we had made was for 4 nights, we didn't even stay half an hour, it was impossible to sleep there, resulting in us losing our deposit. By far the worst hotel.

For the money, relatively good. The owners are a bit strange but nice. There was no hot water, no mosquito nets, so there were many mosquitoes. If someone wants a two-day stay with little money, it's good.

The hotel is old. The hoteliers are rude and mysterious. The room we stayed in was very dirty. There were cobwebs on the bathroom walls and next to the balcony door. The dust under the bed was excessive. We stayed at the hotel for 10 nights. However, they never changed our sheets once, and the room was never cleaned. The room never had hot water. The first day we arrived at the hotel, we waited 2 hours to get into the room, after the time we were supposed to get in. Also, the hoteliers shouted and argued with each other every morning, waking us up. The room also had no shutters or screens, which meant it was very bright in the morning and afternoon (unsuitable for sleeping) and many mosquitoes and insects entered the room. By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and it gets even worse when combined with the unacceptable behavior of the owners.
