About
Nestled near the tranquil village of Anaxos on the northwestern coast of Lesvos, Pygolampida Lesvos Studios offers a welcoming base for travelers seeking to explore one of the Aegean's most quietly captivating stretches of coastline. The name itself — pygolampida means firefly in Greek — hints at the gentle, unhurried character of the place, evoking warm evenings and the soft rhythms of island life. This corner of Lesvos is known for its long sandy beach at Anaxos, the shimmering views toward the Turkish coast, and a landscape of olive groves and pine-covered hills that has changed little over generations.
Studios of this kind on Lesvos typically offer self-catering accommodation suited to independent travelers — clean, simply furnished rooms or apartments with kitchenette facilities, giving guests the freedom to live at their own pace. Staying here means you are well positioned to wake early for a walk along the Anaxos shoreline before the summer crowds arrive, spend afternoons exploring the medieval village of Petra a short drive to the south, or venture inland toward the petrified forest and the dramatic volcanic landscapes of the island's interior. The northwest coast has long attracted visitors who prefer a more authentic, low-key Lesvos over the busier resort towns.
For anyone looking to immerse themselves in the everyday warmth of Greek island hospitality, Pygolampida Lesvos Studios represents exactly the kind of modest, honest accommodation that makes a Lesvos stay feel genuinely local. Guests can browse the morning fish markets in nearby villages, linger over coffee at a harbourside kafeneion, and return each evening to comfortable surroundings without the impersonal feel of a large hotel. It is a place that suits slow travelers — those who come to Lesvos not just to see it, but to feel it.
Before you go
What to expect
The studios take their name from the firefly — fitting for evenings here, when the lights of the Turkish coast glimmer across the water and the pace of life slows to almost nothing. Self-catering kitchenettes give independent travelers the freedom to pick their own hours: walk to the sandy Anaxos shore in the morning, day-trip to medieval Petra a short drive south, and return to a comfortable base without the impersonal atmosphere of a large hotel.
Best time to visit
Late May through September is ideal for swimming; July and August bring more visitors to the beach, but the northwestern coast stays noticeably quieter than the busier resort towns elsewhere on the island.
How to get there
From Mytilene, take the main road northwest through Kalloni and past Petra; the drive to Anaxos takes roughly an hour and fifteen minutes. The village sits a few kilometres north of Petra on the island's northwestern shore.

Maria welcomed us so beautifully… Even though we had a problem with our reservation, she made up for it wonderfully. Her room was very clean and lovely. She offered us small treats. She immediately provided anything I mentioned was missing from the room. Although there were places nearby for breakfast, we prepared breakfast in the room because of its lovely balcony. The location and access are very easy. There's just a narrow and steep incline uphill. It's not suitable for inexperienced drivers, but you can leave your car on the main road there. We walked to the tavern below at night and had dinner. It's a very quiet and peaceful area.

The location is excellent. If you're in a room with a balcony, you'll have a wide sea view. The room is well-equipped and well-equipped. There are also kitchenware. The bathroom is spotless. There's air conditioning. Unfortunately, the internet speed wasn't very strong. It didn't connect in some areas of the room. However, it wasn't a major problem. There's also parking for those arriving by car. It's close to restaurants and beverages. It's quiet.
