The best ice cream in the area. Also nice fruit. We also bought a snorkel mask and goggles and they all work perfectly.

Fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, and bread are plentiful and varied. Towels, armbands, goggles, and seafood are available, and prices are reasonable, providing enough for basic needs.

About

Tucked in the coastal village of Vatera, Super Market Vatera is a reliable stop for visitors staying along one of the longest and most beautiful beaches on Lesvos. Whether you are renting a room nearby, camping, or simply spending the day on the sun-drenched sands, this local supermarket covers the essentials: fresh produce, cold drinks, snacks, basic groceries, and household supplies that make a self-catered stay comfortable and convenient.

What makes a visit here more than just a practical errand is the window it offers into everyday village life. Small supermarkets like this one in quieter corners of Lesvos tend to stock local products alongside standard goods — you might find Greek olive oil, locally produced cheeses, or regional wines that you would not come across in a larger chain store. The staff are typically familiar with the needs of both residents and travelers passing through, and a friendly exchange at the counter is part of the charm of shopping in a place like Vatera rather than a city supermarket. For anyone exploring the southern coast of Lesvos, Super Market Vatera is a handy and welcoming base camp for stocking up before a long afternoon on the beach.

Before you go

What to expect

Small and unhurried, this village supermarket hums with the rhythm of coastal summer life — cold drinks pulled from the fridge, fresh produce stacked near the door, and a relaxed pace that matches the beach just outside. The shelves hold a mix of everyday staples and local finds: Lesvos olive oils, regional cheeses, and wines from island producers that rarely make it to bigger stores.

Best time to visit

Most useful from June through September, when Vatera beach fills with visitors and the store keeps its longest hours.

How to get there

From Mytilene, take the road south through the island's inland villages — the drive to Vatera takes roughly 45 to 50 minutes. The supermarket sits in the heart of the village, a short walk from the beach.

They have the basics here, but they need more things for tourists and the shop is incredibly small.

The only shop in the village. Prices, for such a place, are very reasonable, even low. It's cheaper to buy beer and water in cases, then you can buy them individually, like in a large store. There's also cold beer in the fridge (including non-alcoholic), olive oil from Lesvos, vegetables, fruit, and a modest corner with beach accessories. The shop closes at the end of the season (September 2024). During our stay, it was open from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, then 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Quite a wide variety of products for a small shop. Here you will find, in addition to supermarket and grocery items 🍉🍑🍓, newspapers, magazines 📚, beach items 🌊🌊, mobile phone cards, LPG cylinders, cigarettes and vaporizers..!!!!!
