Ι.Ν. Αγίας Τριάδας
Visitors say
The church should start being repaired, it's a shame for the visitors but more importantly for our village.
Beautiful village near the coast. I'm so glad to see people like that.
About
The Church of the Holy Trinity, known in Greek as Ιερός Ναός Αγίας Τριάδας, is dedicated to one of the most theologically profound feasts of the Orthodox Christian calendar — the Sunday of Pentecost, celebrated fifty days after Easter, when the Church commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit and the revelation of the Triune God. Churches bearing this dedication hold a place of deep spiritual significance in Greek Orthodox communities, and this one on Lesvos is no exception, serving as a local landmark of faith for the surrounding area. Built in the vernacular ecclesiastical style common to the island, it likely features the characteristic white-washed walls, a modest bell tower, and an interior adorned with icons in the Byzantine tradition.
Visitors stepping inside can expect the quiet, incense-scented atmosphere typical of rural Lesvos churches, with an iconostasis separating the nave from the sanctuary and devotional candles casting a warm glow over painted saints. The feast of the Holy Trinity is typically celebrated with a liturgy that draws worshippers from neighboring villages, reflecting the enduring role these small churches play in the social and spiritual fabric of island life. Whether you encounter it as part of a wider exploration of Lesvos's religious heritage or simply stumble upon it along a country road, the Church of the Holy Trinity offers a moment of stillness and a connection to the centuries-old Orthodox traditions that shape the character of this Aegean island.
Before you go
What to expect
Stepping inside this whitewashed rural church you are met with the cool quiet of thick stone walls, the faint scent of beeswax candles, and a gilded iconostasis glowing softly in the half-light. Local women still come to light a candle before the feast-day liturgy, and villagers linger in the courtyard afterward — a living picture of how Orthodox faith stays woven into everyday island life.
Best time to visit
Late spring is ideal: the Feast of the Holy Trinity falls on the Sunday of Pentecost, in May or June, when worshippers gather from surrounding villages and the church is at its most animated.
How to get there
The church is roughly 20 km from Mytilene; allow around 30 minutes by car on island roads. A GPS or local map will help you pinpoint the exact location.

Apart from being a sacred place, it is a beautiful church of the highest archaeological importance. I hope that the state agencies will be interested in restoring the damage from the earthquake. This year for the first time I visited the church at the epitaph. I can say that it was the most beautiful and fragrant epitaph on the entire island, with a spotlessly clean!!! church. Bravo to everyone who helped.
