Visitors say
Easy hiking, 300 meters, better not after rain as it is slippery. Better time early Spring to heave lots pf water 😉!
The waterfall is noy in this town, but you can park the car here (200m before this pin) and follow the signs or another km on a dirtroad. See my other review at the actual location
About
Tucked into the verdant hills near the quiet village of Revma, Vathilimno Waterfall Pterounta is one of Lesvos's most rewarding natural escapes. The western interior of the island receives generous winter rainfall that feeds a network of streams and gorges, and Vathilimno is among the most picturesque results of this landscape — a cascade tumbling into a shaded pool surrounded by plane trees, reeds, and the kind of lush greenery that surprises visitors accustomed to thinking of Aegean islands as sun-baked and barren. The name itself hints at the setting: "vathilimno" evokes deep, still water, a promise the place largely keeps, especially in spring when the flow is at its strongest.
The business here serves as a welcoming base for experiencing the waterfall and its surroundings, offering visitors a place to pause, refresh, and soak in the scenery after the winding drive through the hills. Whether you come for a meal, a cool drink, or simply to rest in the shade while the sound of falling water fills the air, it provides the kind of unhurried, locally rooted hospitality that defines the best of rural Greek tourism. The setting draws hikers exploring the trails of central Lesvos as well as day-trippers seeking relief from the summer coast.
What makes Vathilimno genuinely special is how thoroughly it feels removed from the tourist trail, yet remains accessible enough for any traveler willing to venture a little inland. The surrounding landscape is rich with birdlife — Lesvos is internationally celebrated among ornithologists — and the micro-habitat around the waterfall attracts species rarely seen elsewhere on the island. A visit here, especially paired with a slow afternoon in nearby Revma, offers a window into the quieter, greener soul of Lesvos that many visitors never discover.
Before you go
What to expect
The sound of falling water reaches you before the cascade comes into view — a cool, tree-shaded pool beneath a cliff draped in plane trees and reeds. Hikers and birdwatchers tend to share the spot; this micro-habitat draws species rarely seen elsewhere on the island. The business beside the falls gives you a reason to linger over a meal or a cold drink with the waterfall as your backdrop.
Best time to visit
Spring (April–May) brings the strongest flow and the most verdant surroundings; summer visits are cooler and quieter than the coast, though the cascade runs lower by July.
How to get there
From Mytilene, head north and west into the central hills — expect roughly an hour to an hour and a half on winding mountain roads. The village of Revma is the closest landmark; follow signs from there.

A bit of a trick from the parking area, but once there it was worth the walk. Absolutely beautiful and if you weren’t aware that it was there, you would never come across it. From the direction that we went, I would say that you would need to be fairly mobile to get down to the waterfall. Make sure you visit Lena’s restaurant in the village we had a fantastic meal there as well.

Probably the best attraction on the island when it comes to nature and it's beautiful colors. There are a few paths one can take, the easiest can be found across from the milk/cheese factory 100 meters towards the turn. It's a must. Make sure you bring a good camera you won't be disappointed. Water is usually all year round. Thank you for reading this review.

This is a lovely waterfall but visitors should be aware to come here, and not follow the other pin, which is in the middle of a lovely nearby village. The village provides some parking options, and you can walk to here from it, but if coming in on foot it's misleading to have a pin for the water anywhere else but here!

The waterfall was dry... very sad. The trek to the waterfall was also quite difficult, not recommended for people who have trouble walking.
Owner Response
Dear Daniel sorry for the bad experience the waterfall will have water in the next few days as they are cleaning the river. It is a beautiful place when the water is running

If you go in late July there is no water and certainly no waterfall. The path to get there is half without shade, meaning you'll get baked under the hot sun. Perhaps it's better in other seasons but definitely not for the summer. There are other waterfalls that have plenty of water this time of year, such as in Lefkada island.
