Village Train
Visitors say
Awesome experience. €10 per person, you can hop on hop off the whole day. The guide is hard to hear/understand. The microphone quality is bad. Adds to the experience i think :)
It was a great way to get to Petra and then the castle. The hostess was brilliant with our daughter. She absolutely loved it!
About
Tucked into the scenic northern reaches of Lesvos near the storied village of Molyvos, the Village Train offers a delightful way to explore the area without the effort of navigating on foot. These charming road trains — a beloved fixture at Greek island resorts — carry passengers along routes that wind through village streets, past traditional stone houses, and toward panoramic viewpoints that would otherwise require a more determined effort to reach. For visitors arriving in Molyvos eager to get their bearings, a ride on the Village Train provides a breezy, unhurried introduction to the landscape.
Molyvos itself is one of the most picturesque settlements in the Aegean, crowned by a Byzantine-era castle and tumbling downhill toward a pretty fishing harbor. The Village Train lets families, older travellers, and anyone who simply wants to sit back and soak in the atmosphere enjoy the charm of the surroundings at a leisurely pace. It is the kind of simple, unpretentious attraction that makes a holiday feel genuinely carefree — a slow loop through history and scenery with the Aegean breeze for company.
Before you go
What to expect
The road train trundles through Molyvos's narrow cobbled lanes, past medieval stone houses and flowering gardens, giving passengers an easy orientation before they wander on foot. Riding up toward the castle ridge rewards you with sweeping views over the fishing harbor and the Aegean below — no uphill climbing required.
Best time to visit
May through September when the service is running; June and early July offer a more relaxed atmosphere before August crowds peak in Molyvos.
How to get there
Molyvos is roughly a 50-minute drive north of Mytilene along the coastal and inland road; the train typically picks up passengers near the lower village and harbor area.

Alex is the best, super positive guide. A one day ticket lets you fully explore three villages on the island

I bought a ticket for 10 euros for a day, unlimited and from Molyvos - ticket point to the harbor I was not allowed to go on the principle of "this is the company's policy". Where is this stated? Why wasn't I told? Maybe I was choosing to choose another mode of transport and not spend hours on vacation in stations instead of admiring the resort...because that was the purpose of the village train. I will inquire with the authorities how legal this aspect is.

Fun ride with a friendly and energetic hostess, theres also beautiful views and fun music to enjoy, for 9 euros you can hop on hop off. (TIP) If you already had the tour once i would recommend going to Petra or anaxos by bus instead (€2)

Decent enough way to see the local area. It runs pretty much to time and the relaxed pace enabled us to see the sights. It helped us to decide that Anaxos is essentially just a beach destination but Petra is worth a look.

I love the fact they have this train from petra to molyvos with a few stops in between. It was nice meeting Angela and I hope to be back here one day. Prices are more than reasonable. PS they play nice music too

Very nice sightseeing tour experience! You can use the train to visit the highlights of Petra & Molyvos. I used it every day. Also very nice store close to the harbour of Molyvos. One of the best of the village

We had lovely time on train but unfortunately day was marred by the train having a puncture and delaying our return journey to Petra. What a journey it was the driver must have been trying to make time up he drove so fast we were having to grip on as he raced around bends felt quite travel sick but no apology was made. Trip should have more information on places around.
