Virginia Studios
Visitors say
It was a wonderful stay. The rooms were very clean, the location was perfect, and the staff were very helpful. We were very pleased.
You're picked up promptly from the bus, and the rooms are neatly furnished and super clean. We've been coming here twice a year for years, so that speaks volumes. Very hospitable and very helpful.
About
Virginia Studios offers a welcoming base for travelers seeking a relaxed stay along the northwestern coast of Lesvos, positioned in the peaceful enclave near Anaxos Skoutarou. This part of the island is prized for its unhurried pace, with the long sandy beach of Anaxos stretching out just moments away and the dramatic silhouette of the Turkish coast visible across the shimmering Aegean. Self-catering studios of this kind are a cornerstone of Greek island hospitality, giving visitors the freedom to settle in, shop at local markets, and live alongside the rhythms of the village rather than simply passing through.
Staying near Anaxos places guests within easy reach of some of Lesvos's most rewarding experiences. The olive groves and pine-covered hills of the northwest provide ideal walking terrain, while the nearby village of Petra, with its iconic rock-perched church of Agios Nikolaos and the historic Vareltzidena mansion, offers a compelling cultural half-day. The sunsets from this stretch of coastline are among the most celebrated on the island, with the light turning the sea to copper and gold as the day fades over the water. Virginia Studios suits couples, families, and independent travelers who want comfortable, self-sufficient accommodation in a corner of Lesvos that still feels genuinely Greek.
Before you go
What to expect
Virginia Studios gives you a proper base rather than just a bed — with a kitchen to stock from the local market and Anaxos's long sandy beach a short walk away, days here settle into an easy, unhurried rhythm. Evenings reward you with some of the island's most celebrated sunsets, the light shifting over the Aegean toward the faint outline of the Turkish coast.
Best time to visit
May through October is the swim season; June and September offer warm sea and cooler evenings without the peak-August heat and crowds.
How to get there
From Mytilene, allow around an hour's drive northwest, passing through Kalloni and then Petra before the road winds down through olive groves to the Anaxos coast.

We've been here for a few days now (end of May 2025), and the owner, Irene (Greek) and her sister-in-law Laura (Dutch), are incredibly friendly. The rooms are clean and renovated, and the kitchen utensils are very neat and clean. The balcony offers little privacy and is shared with the neighbors via a gate. This is common with apartments here. In terms of service, nothing is too much trouble. Uncomfortable pillows...no problem. Chairs on the balcony are too high...no problem. Power outages...no problem. Everything is resolved quickly. The area is 5 minutes from the beach. And from the apartment, there's a pleasant view in a quiet area without loud music. The pool is also a lovely temperature and clean, with generous opening hours from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. I also heard that Laura and a guest spent a whole day out to the doctor and hospital for medical reasons. This is SERVICE with a capital letter, just as ENJOYMENT can be written with a capital letter. BUT, because apartment 16/17 has a connecting door with the adjacent apartment (which used to be a family room), it's quite noisy. The room smells of cigarette smoke because the neighbor smokes heavily in the room with all the windows and doors closed. It also sometimes feels like the neighbor is in our room. Luckily for us, the resident was super friendly at the end of our vacation and made everything better. However, if I may mention one downside... there was no mosquito netting or fan at the door or windows. So, if you have an upper room with sun, for example, you have to pay for air conditioning at 7 euros per day. Opening the door or window isn't an option due to the many mosquitoes. Perhaps in the future, mosquito netting can be installed. Sleeping with air conditioning isn't my preference. Definitely a place I'll return to, but only in a room without a connecting door to avoid smokers.

We have just returned from a week at Virginia Studios. We did expect a double bed from pictures we booked, however, we stayed in a twin bedroom with terrace. Although the rooms are somewhat basic, our room was spotlessly clean - no exaggeration, there was not a fleck of dust. This is what is most important to us. Everything was in working order with toilet paper provided (and replaced) every day, and a collection of kitchen utensils. The only thing missing would be hand-soap for the bathroom. Even a small bar, to see you through until you can get to the shop after arriving. The balcony was big, and spacious with a partial sea view and view of the farmlands. It would be nice to provide a parasol however as there was no shade at all, at any point of day. We received a warm welcome upon arrival, and frequently bumped into the owner while out and about. Always treated with respect and friendly conversation. The location is excellent. Very close to the beach, and central to all the little shops and tavernas that Anaxos has to offer. We did not use the pool area, but this was the only thing that let the apartments down. The sun loungers looked a little worn and could be replaced. We prefer the beach, so was not a major issue. We cannot complain though, Virginia Studios is excellent value for money and we are excited for our next visit.

We stayed in the renovated room with the roof terrace. No complaints, all good! Lovely owners. A ventilator for sleeping would be nice and a bit more kitchengear - but when we asked for it, they brought some more. Very sweet. At the nice pool and on our roof terrace we could do with a bit more places with shade, that is sometimes hard to find. All over a decent place to stay and very lovely people!
