Amazing spot to see the sunrise! Amazing spot to see the sunrise!
About
Fykiotripa is a secluded pebbly cove tucked along the northeastern coastline of Lesvos, near the quiet village of Alyfada. The name itself hints at the beach's character — "fyki" referring to the seaweed and marine greenery that thrive in the clear, calm waters here, and "tripa" suggesting the rocky formations and hollows that give the shoreline its rugged, intimate feel. Sheltered from the stronger winds that can sweep other parts of the island, this is the kind of spot that rewards those willing to seek it out, offering crystalline water in shades of deep turquoise against a backdrop of sun-bleached stone and sparse coastal scrub.
The surrounding area around Alyfada is unhurried and largely untouched by mass tourism, making Fykiotripa a natural retreat for visitors looking to escape the busier beaches further south. The water is typically very clean, and the rocky seabed and submerged boulders make it a pleasant spot for snorkeling, with good visibility revealing the underwater world that gives the beach its name. Whether you arrive by car along the coastal road or on foot from the village, the sense of arriving somewhere genuinely off the beaten path is part of the appeal. For travelers exploring the quieter eastern reaches of Lesvos, Fykiotripa offers a moment of genuine solitude and the simple pleasure of swimming in the Aegean far from the crowds.
Before you go
What to expect
Rounded pebbles slope into calm, exceptionally clear water where submerged rocks draped in seaweed give the cove its name and make snorkeling genuinely rewarding. The rugged shoreline and sparse coastal scrub keep the atmosphere raw and natural — no sun-bed rows here, just the sound of small waves against stone. It feels set apart from the busier beaches elsewhere on the island in a way that is immediately noticeable.
Best time to visit
May through October for swimming; the sheltered bay stays calm even when winds pick up elsewhere on the island.
How to get there
Fykiotripa sits just over a kilometre from central Mytilene along the northeastern coast — a short drive or an easy walk from the town following the coastal road toward Alyfada.

Beautiful place in the evening for a leisurely stroll and above it overlooks the castle of Mytilene

It looks like an old, abandoned structure. The tower-like structure on top of the rock is striking. There are water marks at the bottom of the rock. There's a running and walking track in the area, and the view is fantastic. Ayvalık is standing opposite. This section is located above the harbor where you dock by ferry.

A small, old, dilapidated building perched on the rocks at the base of the castle. It seems abandoned. Its purpose is unclear.

The area around the castle. A small building on the rocks, covered in graffiti. The view from there is quite nice.

How do all these places get five stars? Most are covered in graffiti and clearly need TLC and a cleaning crew for the grounds. Have yet to visit one that hasn't been tagged and seen better days -- years ago.
