One of the best places for traditional Greek food in mytilene. Jannis is an amazing guy that serves food with love. A definite recommendation.
Amazing authentic greek food! we came back twice because of how great everything was, especially the calamari and swordfish. The staff are very kind and helpful, thank you so much <3
About
Tucked away near the quiet village of Alyfada, The Ouzotharapia wears its philosophy right in its name: on Lesvos, ouzo is not merely a drink but a form of therapy, a ritual of slowing down that the island has perfected over generations. Lesvos is Greece's foremost ouzo-producing island, home to storied distilleries that have been crafting the anise-scented spirit for well over a century, and a place like this leans fully into that proud local identity. The name is a knowing wink to anyone who has ever sat at a seaside table, watched the afternoon light turn gold, and felt the particular ease that comes with a cold glass of ouzo and a plate of mezedes.
What visitors find here is a classic Greek mezedopoleio experience rooted in the traditions of the eastern Aegean. The kitchen draws on the honest, generous cooking of Lesvos: grilled seafood brought in from local waters, salty taramosalata, tender octopus, cured local sardines, and the kind of feta that bears little resemblance to what most travelers have tasted elsewhere. Ouzo arrives alongside small plates in a rhythm that encourages lingering, conversation, and the gradual dissolution of any pressing agenda. The atmosphere is unpretentious and convivial, the sort of place where locals and visitors end up sharing tables by the end of an afternoon.
For anyone exploring the quieter, less-trafficked corners of the island's interior and northern coast, a stop at The Ouzotharapia offers something genuinely restorative. It captures the essence of Lesbian hospitality: abundant food, strong drink, and an unhurried welcome that feels like a counterpoint to the busier resort strips elsewhere on the island. Come hungry, come with time to spare, and let the therapy do its work.
Before you go
What to expect
The pace here is set by the ouzo itself: small plates arrive in unhurried waves, conversation loosens, and the afternoon slides into evening before anyone notices. Locals pull up chairs without ceremony and the background noise is clinking glasses and Greek chatter rather than piped music. Come with appetite and no particular schedule.
Best time to visit
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for a long outdoor session; summer evenings work well too, though the place fills quickly after sundown.
How to get there
Right in the heart of Mytilene, so no driving needed — it is an easy walk from the port and the seafront promenade.

My friend and I visited Ouzotharapia during a winter weekend in Mytilene while on a study tour based in Athens - and it was unforgettable. It was so good we came back the very next day. The grilled calamari was especially outstanding; incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. We couldn’t decide what to order, so we chose multiple seafood dishes and sides to share, and every single plate was exceptional. The setting is simple and charming, with a handwritten menu and bouzouki music playing softly in the background. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the whole place felt relaxed and homely. We shared a bottle of ouzo, and the total cost was only a fraction of what we’d pay in Australia for seafood that wouldn’t come close to this quality. I truly can’t overstate how special this meal was - it may well have been the best of my life. If you’re visiting Lesbos, do yourself a favour and go. <3

Not worth it, small portions and expensive for what you get, the most average meal I’ve had in Greece so far. This ‘seasonal’ salad was €4 and just old lettuce with onion. Only reason it’s not a 1 star is the service guy was a nice fella.

One of the best tavernas in Mytilene, Lesvos. Very authentic and very friendly. We prefer seafood and it was delicious as well as ouzo. Highly recommended to everybody

Very good service with nice hospitality and delicious food. It’s also nice to see that they made a list of the items in Turkish so it’s easier for us to order :) But it looks like a place mainly local people go for a nice dinner. And I can’t skip without mentioning the music… There was nice rebetiko playlist on the background and it gave a full Greek dinner experience. Thank you, I’ll come back on my next Mytilini visit!

There is no menu with prices. Also they asked us if we will pay cash or card. If you pay card you have to pay immediately, if cash you can pay at the end of dinner. We found it strange. Anyway the grilled calamari portion was small but it was delicious. We even went again the next day to try the grilled octopus and that was delicious too.

Wonderful, fresh and authentic food, great hospitality! Giannis is the best host ever. Whatever he suggested us was delicious, marinated sardines were heavenly, grilled calamari was perfectly cooked. And he could not let us leave that olive oil on the plate, gave us two slices of bread and said: eat, eat, it won’t do you any harm :)) The goat milk ice-cream at the end was the cherry on the top! I suggest this place with all my heart and stomach!

I loved the restaurant . The owner is a fantastic person, and amazing cook. If you love meat it’s the place to be. Everything is local , the tomatoes , cucumbers and courgettes are to die for. The lamb and sheep are from local farmers .. don’t miss it if you are in Lesbos. I recommend the staffed vine leaves and fried courgettes. Lamb chops are a must too. Every Wednesday , Thursday and Friday in summer time they have live with local music that are amazing with a great ambiance

Great little tavern just outside Mytilini. Good music, food and atmosphere. Went on a Saturday night, and socialized and danced with local and international patrons. Very fun and memorable, would go again.
Make a day of it
