Simply honest and delicious food, even on a day outside the weekend and during the off-peak season. Really fresh and high-quality. The fact that I don't find it particularly cozy doesn't matter. Highly recommended.
The best restaurant in the area, hands-down. They make you feel right at home. Try their traditional Greek dishes, the Stifado and Giouvetsi are amazing.
About
Tucked into the village of Eresos, one of Lesvos's most storied corners and the legendary birthplace of the ancient poet Sappho, Mezen offers a welcoming refuge for travelers exploring the island's quieter southwestern reaches. The restaurant draws on the rich mezedes tradition of Greek dining, where the pleasure of a meal lies not in a single dish but in the unhurried sharing of many — small plates of locally sourced olives, cheeses, grilled vegetables, and seafood that reflect the rhythms of the Aegean larder. It is the kind of place where an afternoon lunch can easily stretch into early evening, accompanied by local wine or ouzo and the easy conversation of a village that has long attracted free spirits and curious wanderers.
Eresos itself sits a short distance inland from the long sandy sweep of Skala Eresou, and Mezen makes a natural stopping point before or after a day at the beach, or while exploring the village's Byzantine ruins and folk museum. The atmosphere tends toward the unhurried and the genuine, shaped by the character of a community that values good food and good company in equal measure. Visitors who make the journey to this far corner of Lesvos — and it is a journey worth making — will find in Mezen a place that embodies the best of island hospitality: honest cooking, warm welcome, and a setting that reminds you why you came here in the first place.
Before you go
What to expect
At Mezen, small plates arrive in waves — olives, grilled vegetables, local cheeses, seafood — and the meal takes its pace from the village outside, not the clock. Eresos has a particular gravity to it, the old stone lanes and the sense of a community that has always drawn thoughtful travellers, and that feeling carries into the table. Lunch here has a way of becoming the afternoon.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn is ideal; August brings more visitors, but the village holds its unhurried character better than most.
How to get there
From Mytilene, count on roughly an hour's drive west through the island's interior to reach Eresos; the restaurant sits in the village center, a short walk from the main square.

Food is lovely and very traditional, service is excellent especially the one with big belly and the one with the bigger belly, and of course the one who takes the money. It's a great atmosphere and very friendly, thanks for a great night again. We will be back.

We ate twice here in one week because the food was so good the first time round. Pictures attached are of the lamb ribs, Stifado (beef and onion stew), Giovetsi (beef tomato and pasta stew) and shrimps. Everything was really tasty and well done. The table bread was a bit stale and not the best. Service was good on our first visit but quite frantic on the second visit because it was so busy. For a really good meal here this is a great choice.

From the very first bite, this place won our hearts. We enjoyed perfectly cooked sea bass with fresh vegetables, a crisp and flavorful Greek salad, and beautifully roasted eggplants that melted in the mouth. Paired with a glass of local wine and a splash of ouzo 🌝, it turned into an unforgettable feast. The staff were not only professional but genuinely warm and attentive, making us feel truly welcome. A spot I’d recommend 100% to anyone wanting an authentic taste of the region.

In our opinion, easily the best restaurant in the village. The menu was a bit more inventive than the typical Greek restaurant and the food was excellent. We always sat outside on the terrace to enjoy the view and watch the world go by. Service was friendly and we had a complimentary mini Magnum type of ice cream for dessert. By our third visit they knew our drinks choices and that my husband would decline the ice cream! It’s right next to the church and the bell strikes every hour which always made us jump! It also gave us an excellent view of a wedding which was a bonus.
