About
Nestled in the quiet village surroundings of Alyfada, Pharmacy Gavriil Aikaterini serves as one of those essential local institutions that travellers venturing off the beaten path in Lesvos will be grateful to find. Rural pharmacies across the Aegean islands carry a significance beyond the merely practical — they are often the first port of call for visitors and locals alike, staffed by knowledgeable professionals who can advise on everything from sunburn and insect bites to sourcing prescription medications in a language barrier situation.
For visitors exploring the lesser-visited eastern reaches of Lesvos, knowing that a reliable pharmacy is nearby in Alyfada offers genuine peace of mind. The staff at small-town Greek pharmacies are typically well-versed in common travel ailments and accustomed to helping foreign visitors navigate their needs. You can expect to find sun care products, rehydration salts, bandages, and a solid range of over-the-counter remedies, along with locally produced remedies and herbal preparations that reflect the island's rich botanical traditions — Lesvos has long been celebrated for its olive groves, aromatic herbs, and traditional knowledge of natural medicine.
Whether you have forgotten essentials at home, had an unexpected mishap on one of Lesvos's rugged hiking trails, or simply need to stock up before heading further into the island's quieter interior, Pharmacy Gavriil Aikaterini provides the kind of dependable, community-rooted service that makes independent travel in rural Greece so rewarding. It is a reminder that even in the most tranquil corners of the island, the necessities of modern life are thoughtfully provided for.
Before you go
What to expect
A well-stocked town pharmacy a short walk from the Mytilene waterfront, useful for picking up sun cream, rehydration sachets, or anything you forgot to pack. Staff at central pharmacies in Greek towns are typically accustomed to helping foreign visitors and can often communicate in English. You will also find locally produced herbal preparations alongside the usual European pharmacy staples.
Best time to visit
Open year-round; most useful in summer when sun-related ailments and busy travel schedules create the most demand.
How to get there
The pharmacy is within Mytilini itself, roughly a five-minute walk from the harbour — no car needed if you are already staying in or near the town centre.

Yesterday, on 13/9/20, Sunday, I needed medicine from this particular pharmacy at 02:00 for an emergency, I knocked for 10 minutes without anyone ever opening. And it has happened again. Why is it staying overnight then? What does the pharmaceutical association have to say?
