About
Tucked along the eastern coast of Lesvos near the small settlement of Charamida, Taverna Klavas is the kind of seaside eating spot that defines the unhurried rhythm of Greek island life. The taverna sits close to the water, offering diners the simple pleasure of a meal with an unobstructed view across the Aegean toward the Turkish coastline — a reminder of just how close Lesvos sits to the ancient shores of Asia Minor. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, drawing both locals from the surrounding villages and visitors exploring the quieter southern reaches of the island.
The menu leans on what the surrounding sea and land provide, with fresh fish and traditional Greek mezedes forming the backbone of the kitchen's offerings. Grilled octopus dried in the sun, fried calamari, and the catch of the day prepared simply with olive oil and lemon are the kind of dishes you come to expect — and hope for — at a taverna like this. The olive groves and gardens of the Lesvos interior supply much of what ends up on the table, and the local ouzo pairs naturally with whatever the kitchen sends out.
A stop at Klavas is as much about the experience as the food. Charamida is off the well-worn tourist trail, and reaching it means you have already made the choice to explore beyond the obvious. Sitting here with a carafe of house wine as fishing boats drift past and the light shifts over the water toward evening is one of those small, unhurried moments that stay with travelers long after they have left the island.
Before you go
What to expect
Tables are set close to the water's edge, and the view stretches across the Aegean toward the Turkish coast — close enough to feel the geography of the Aegean in a single glance. The kitchen sends out classic mezedes: grilled octopus, fried calamari, the day's catch dressed with olive oil and lemon. It's a slow-lunch kind of place, where a carafe of house wine outlasts most plans.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn is ideal; July and August are lively but Charamida stays calmer than the island's main beaches.
How to get there
From Mytilini, head south along the eastern coast — Charamida is roughly 10 km away and reachable in about 15–20 minutes by car.

The mezes are quite good, kalamari was also good but the grilled octopus did not how I expected. In general, I like the place and the food.

Authentic, no-frills taverna with excellent food. After a morning on the beach we stopped here for lunch and had some of the best Greek food on our trip. All the classic taverna dishes were amazing and the grilled sardines tasted fresh. Right now their menu is only in Greek but the woman there told me they were working on an English menu, so just be prepared.

Very kind and friendly staff. Food is very tasty and portion sizes are quite big. The restaurant is big and spacious. Prices are very reasonable and very good for the amount of food you get. Absolutely would recommend. Best restaurant in the island we have visited so far. Will come back the next time we have the chance. ❤️

Good place for a fish and ouzo after a swim at the nearby beach or in the afternoon. Its an ok place with very reasonable prices (espetially if you are used to "city" prices) and fresh local food. It lacks the elegant cooking style of other places, but its a great value for money!
